Job Description

Data Engineer \| Hybrid Essex (3 days a week on site) \| 45-55k

You know that feeling when you’re the one who actually makes the data platform work
but you’re still treated like the junior who “just builds pipelines”?

This is the opposite of that.

There’s a Head of Data with a clear plan. A data scientist who’s actually being invested in. A BI dev who isn’t trying to pretend they’re a data engineer. A delivery manager shielding you from chaos.

What they don’t have is

you

– the engineer who can sit in the middle of it and make Fabric, Spark and the wider platform actually run.

You’ll be joining a large, multi-brand group on the East London / Essex border, helping build a proper

unified data platform

rather than stitching together disconnected pipelines.

The vision is already in motion:

One central platform (Microsoft Fabric / Azure)

Medallion-style Lakehouse (Bronze / Silver / Gold)

Power BI for self-service

AI use cases emerging

The ambition is big. The engineering capacity isn’t.

That’s where you come in.

What you’ll be doing:

Building and fixing

Spark-driven pipelines

across the Medallion layers

Writing clean, production-grade

SQL and Python

Working with Fabric / Azure services (or transferring similar cloud experience)

Helping shape data models, testing standards and documentation

Ensuring performance stays under control as the platform scales

It’s a hands-on role. Work comes through the Head of Data and delivery manager, so you’re not juggling ten competing stakeholders.

To be considered, you’ll need:

Solid experience as a

Data Engineer

Strong

SQL

and

Python

Real exposure to

Spark

(Fabric, Databricks or similar)

Some knowledge of cloud data tooling (Azure ideal, others welcome)

Experience building or maintaining pipelines in a production environment

Bonus: domain knowledge in supply chain, logistics or finance data

They’re not expecting Fabric experts — the tech is too new for that — but you do need to show strong fundamentals and the ability to pick things up quickly.
