About Us
AccuFind is an Adelaide-based AI startup building tools for high-stakes government operations. We integrate organisational policies with legal frameworks to help frontline workers - police officers, child protection workers, WHS professionals, and regulatory staff - make better decisions in critical situations.
Our technical founder, Hamish Cameron (former CIO of South Australia Police), started AccuFind after seeing firsthand how frontline workers struggled to access the policy and legal information they needed. After a successful public beta with over 60,000 queries from government workers, we're scaling up and expanding our capabilities.
The Role
We're looking for a full stack engineer to work alongside our founder on our core product and roadmap. This is a hands-on role in a small team where you'll have real ownership over technical decisions and direct impact on what we build.
You'll be working on AI-powered systems that government workers depend on - building everything from serverless infrastructure to mobile-optimised frontends, implementing vector search at scale, and creating AI agents from scratch.
What You'll Be Doing
Building serverless backend systems on AWS
Developing React frontends optimised for frontline government users
Implementing vector search using Qdrant for semantic retrieval at scale
Building AI agents and workflows from scratch using LLMs
Designing multi-tenant SaaS architectures with proper security isolation
Managing infrastructure as code using Terraform
Working with embeddings, hybrid search, and RAG systems
Integrating document processing and policy analysis capabilities
What We're Looking For
Required:
Strong Python and React/JavaScript skills
Experience building production SaaS applications end-to-end
Solid understanding of AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, etc.)
Interest or experience in AI/ML, especially LLMs and embeddings
Familiarity with vector databases or semantic search systems
Understanding of multi-tenant architectures and API design
Comfortable working independently in a small team
Willing and able to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance
Bonus points for:
Experience with vector databases (Qdrant, Pinecone, Weaviate) in production
Built AI agents or autonomous workflows from scratch
Fine-tuned embedding models or worked with RAG pipelines
Experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code
Background in legal tech, compliance, or regulated industries
Built systems for government or high-security environments
Why This Role Matters
Your work will directly support people making critical decisions. Police officers deciding whether to make an arrest. Child protection workers assessing risk to children. Safety officers interpreting complex WHS legislation.
You'll be working on genuinely interesting technical problems - vector search at scale, multi-tenant isolation, AI agents, document processing - and you'll see the real-world impact of what you build.
Tech Stack
Backend: Python, AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3
Frontend: React, WebSocket, modern JavaScript
AI/ML: LLM APIs, embeddings, vector database
Infrastructure: Terraform, AWS, Cognito, CloudWatch, Bedrock, SageMaker
Testing: pytest, Jest, React Testing Library, etc
Location \& Work Arrangement
Preference for Adelaide-based candidates.
Hybrid work with a preference for some in-office work, especially early on as we establish team rhythms and build out new features together. We have a new office on Pirie Street in Adelaide's CBD.
Remote candidates may be considered for exceptional fit, but Adelaide-based is strongly preferred.
Compensation
Competitive salary based on experience. Equity options available for the right candidate.
