Freelance Data Engineer - Renewable Energy \& Smart Grid Analytics - 12 Months Contract
Role Summary
Our client is a prominent European energy technology company at the forefront of the digital shift in renewable energy and smart grid innovation. They are looking for a freelancer to help in designing, developing, and maintaining robust data pipelines that enable advanced analytics, forecasting, and optimization across the company’s renewable energy infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and manage scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines integrating diverse sources (IoT sensors, SCADA systems, ERP data, and market feeds).
Architect efficient data storage and retrieval systems using modern cloud data platforms.
Build and maintain real-time streaming pipelines for telemetry and operational data processing.
Implement automated data validation, lineage, and monitoring solutions to ensure reliability and transparency.
Optimize data workflows for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness at enterprise scale.
Maintain documentation and promote best practices around data modeling, governance, and security standards.

Required Skills and Experience
Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for large-scale data processing.
Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Solid knowledge of data warehouse technologies (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks).
Hands-on experience with orchestration and transformation tools (Airflow, dbt, or Prefect).
Familiarity with time-series and telemetry data at scale.
Strong understanding of data quality, observability, governance, and pipeline optimization principles.
Contract Details
Location:
Germany or EU-based (remote or hybrid flexibility).
Engagement:
12-month initial contract with potential for extension.
Language:
English (mandatory); German (advantageous).
