Description:
Alaska Northstar Resources (ANR) is seeking a DevOps Engineer III to serve as the Senior DevOps Lead for the CAST Imaging deployment, configuration, and operations in a secure DoD AWS environment. This position provides hands-on technical leadership for Kubernetes-based deployment, automation, observability, and compliance in a secure DoD cloud ecosystem. The engineer will partner with software, cyber, and infrastructure teams to ensure the CAST Imaging platform meets DoD mission objectives, ATO requirements, and DevSecOps standards.
This role requires hands-on experience in AWS, Terraform, Helm/Kubernetes, and pipeline automation, plus the ability to advise and mentor junior DevOps engineers. The ideal candidate is an innovator capable of designing platform-wide automation and resilient, compliant infrastructure supporting multi-zone Cloud One environments.
Requirements: Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen
Candidate must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance at minimum
Candidate must have an active CompTIA Security+ or other 8570 IAT Level II certification
Candidate must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline.
Candidate must have at least 15 years' experience with the following:
Developing, scripts, tests, and deploying Infrastructure-as-Code and cloud-native resources via automation/orchestration using Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, and Python.
Designing, implementing, and maintaining Kubernetes (EKS) and Helm architecture across multi-namespace, multi-VPC environments with ingress controllers and load balancers aligned to DoD IL5 security requirements.
Building and maintaining automated upgrade workflows for nodes, clusters, and Helm application deployments, including automated rollback and recovery mechanisms triggered by observability alerts.
Implementing CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions) integrating automated testing, security scanning (Trivy or equivalent), and deployment verification across controlled environments.
Developing and managing Terraform modules and pipelines for repeatable, secure deployment of infrastructure and CAST Imaging services on AWS IL-compliant environments.
Implementing STIG compliance, CIS benchmarks, and CVE triage automation to maintain continuous ATO readiness and vulnerability mitigation documentation.
Designing and integrating storage and observability solutions (EFS/EBS, metrics, logging) supporting system resiliency and automated response actions.
Providing expert troubleshooting of application and infrastructure issues in coordination with product teams, cyber defenders, and infrastructure support.
Preparing and maintaining technical documentation, IaC guides, and runbooks to support continuity of operations and ATO packages.
Operating within an Agile SDLC environment (two- to three-week sprints, daily scrums, and sprint tracking software).
Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Strong experience supporting AWS Cloud One and deploying mission-critical applications in DoD IL4/IL5 environments.
Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes security (RBAC, Pod Security, network policies, TLS and certificate management).
Deep understanding of DevSecOps principles and automated compliance scanning and reporting.
Experience with automated monitoring and alerting mechanisms (Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch, or Splunk) with integration to incident response workflows.
Strong knowledge of AWS networking (VPC peering, subnets, NAT gateways, internal/external load balancers).
Experience working with CAST Imaging and understanding its deployment dependencies in AWS and Cloud One contexts.
Ability to review and approve infrastructure and security designs and provide strategic guidance to engineering teams.
Demonstrated leadership in mentoring junior engineers and translating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Familiarity with DoD RMF processes, ATO maintenance, and cybersecurity collaboration with security control assessors.
Work Environment
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Occasional business travel may be required. Only requested and approved expenses will be covered by ANR.
