Join Albert Heijn as an Engineering Manager Frontend and make a real impact on the logistics processes for AH home deliveries. In this role, you will help shape the future landscape in eCommerce Logistics by leading the transition to a modern React-based tech foundation.

You will be joining the Ecommerce Backoffice team, which is dedicated to fulfilling our promises to customers and making sure logistics processes run smooth for all deliveries. We’re undergoing a major transition, phasing out Outsystems and migrating Oracle Forms screens to a modern React platform. You’ll start in the Delivery team, focusing first on migration, with opportunities to build new features and rebuild applications in React. Our department currently has two React developers and a junior developer, with plans to grow to a team of ten working on both React apps and web solutions. We’re looking for a strong Engineering Manager to guide us through this transition and lead our expanding workforce.

  • Ensure team delivery aligns with the Tech Radar, OKRs, and Engineering Excellence Principles.

  • Collaborate with your teams to support the technical performance of applications.

  • Encourage team members to build and run their applications autonomously while gaining hands-on coding experience.

  • Help maintain high-quality standards in the development and operation of customer-facing applications.

  • Work alongside architects to understand design initiatives.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Support team organization and decision-making processes.

  • Help foster an engineering culture that encourages collaboration and technical discussions.

  • Guide team members in maintaining code quality standards.

  • Promote a positive team culture where members feel comfortable expressing themselves.

  • Coach and support team members in their roles, facilitating their growth and development.

  • Participate in the mentorship and growth of junior engineers.

Vision and Alignment

  • Understand and align with the mission and vision of the marketing and customer cluster.

  • Assist in balancing technical and product roadmap goals for the applications you support.

  • Collaborate with various departments and stakeholders to drive team success.

The recipe for maximum impact.

6+ years of software engineering experience, with strong expertise in React Next.js

Solid understanding of Microservices Architecture and cloud engineering.

Familiarity with DevOps methodologies, observability, and security practices.

Proven experience in coaching and supporting team members in their roles.

Strong communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus.

Experience working on large-scale projects in a team environment, preferably in an enterprise setting.

Experience in working in a similar role as Engineering Manager or other Managerial responsibilities including coaching, guidance and steering on performance of employees. (must have)

Knowledge and experience in migrating towards react (aided by AI) is a big bonus.

A willingness to learn and grow in a leadership role, with a focus on developer experience.

A proactive mindset to stay updated with IT trends and new technologies.

Comfortable with presenting ideas and collaborating with team members.
