Job Description

A Mechanical Designer and Builder is a professional who not only designs mechanical test systems and components but also oversee parts fabrication by machine shops, build in-house the mechanical frames, integrate machined parts and components, and occasionally provide for client on-site installations. This role ensures a seamless transition from conceptual design to functional implementation, maintaining integrity and efficiency throughout the process.​

Key Responsibilities:

Design Development: Utilizing Solidworks CAD software to create detailed technical drawings and models of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications. ​

Prototyping: Developing and testing prototypes to validate design concepts, making necessary adjustments based on performance data and feedback. ​

Fabrication Oversight: Outsourcing and managing the manufacturing process of mechanical components, collaborating with third party machinists and fabricators to ensure accurate production according to design specifications.​

Assembly and Installation: Build and assemble mechanical test frames, Integrate machines parts and all components, and oversee the installation process at client sites or within facility.​

Quality Assurance: Conducting inspections and tests to verify that fabricated and assembled systems meet quality standards and perform as intended.​

Project Coordination: Collaborating with engineers, project managers, and clients to align design and build activities with project goals, timelines, and budgets.​

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

Educational Background: An associate or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, or a related field is typically required.​

Technical Proficiency: Expertise in SolidWorks for design purposes and familiarity with manufacturing processes and tools. ​

Hands-on Skills: Practical experience with fabrication techniques, assembly processes, and the use of relevant machinery and tools.​

Problem-Solving Abilities: Aptitude for identifying and resolving design and build challenges to ensure functional and efficient mechanical systems.​

Attention to Detail: Precision in both design documentation and physical construction to maintain high-quality standards.​

Communication Skills: Ability to effectively convey technical information and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.​
