Job Description:
AWS API Developer (Node.js/Java)
Location:
Toronto, ON (Hybrid)
Tech Stack :
Node.js/Java, JavaScript, REST web services, AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, SNS/SQS, Kafka, GitHub, Linux.
Summary:
Seeking a hands-on backend engineer to design, build, and operate cloud‑native APIs on AWS. You’ll focus on event-driven and RESTful services with robust observability, security, and performance characteristics.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement serverless and containerized APIs (AWS Lambda, API Gateway; optionally ECS/EKS) using Node.js and/or Java.
Model data access patterns with DynamoDB (single-table design, GSIs) and S3 for object storage.
Build asynchronous/event-driven flows using SNS/SQS and Kafka; ensure at‑least‑once processing and idempotency.
Implement API security (OAuth2/JWT, IAM, VPC), secrets management (Secrets Manager/SSM), and input validation.
Establish CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions/CodeBuild/CodePipeline), IaC (CloudFormation/CDK/Terraform).
Apply observability (CloudWatch, X-Ray, structured logging, metrics/alarms), and SLO/error budgets.
Write automated tests (unit/integration/contract), and participate in code reviews.
Performance tuning (cold starts, concurrency, memory/timeouts) and cost optimization (on-demand vs. provisioned concurrency).
Qualifications:
7+ years backend development, 3+ on AWS building production APIs.
Proficiency in Node.js (TypeScript preferred) and/or Java (Spring Boot/Quarkus).
Strong with REST principles, JSON, and API lifecycle/Versioning; experience with event streaming (Kafka).
Solid understanding of AWS serverless services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SNS/SQS), IAM, VPC networking basics.
Experience with GitHub workflows, Linux, and container tooling (Docker).
