Your Role as Senior Electrical Designer
The Senior Designer is responsible for leading and executing complex design tasks across multiple projects within the Electrical \& Instrumentation or Power Systems teams. This includes developing detailed electrical drawings, instrumentation schematics, wiring diagrams, scopes of work, bills of materials, and capital cost estimates. This role ensures all designs meet applicable industry standards and project specifications, while maintaining high-quality documentation and supporting document control processes.
This position involves close collaboration with engineers, project managers, and field personnel. Responsibilities include conducting site visits, coordinating design reviews, mentoring junior designers, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. The Senior Designer is expected to manage time effectively across concurrent projects and support the successful delivery of engineering solutions in a dynamic industrial environment.
Your Key Accountabilities
Independently drafts, reviews, and finalizes complex electrical systems designs and technical drawings.
Lead the electrical design process from concept through to completion, including schematic design, layout, and detailed drawings.
Performs complex calculations for layouts and non-critical items.
Reviews technical calculations and instructions set by engineers to determine project design requirements.
Conduct site visits for data collection and assessment.
Follow industry standards and codes as instructed.
Preform QAQC checks on complex drawing packages of peers and resolve technical discrepancies.
Document work, maintain technical records, write technical scopes of work, and assist with report writing as required.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate electrical designs with other building systems, such as mechanical, structural, and automation.
Conduct thorough analysis and calculations to ensure the functionality, reliability, and efficiency of electrical systems.
Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior designers and engineers, mentoring them in best practices and industry standards.
Review and evaluate electrical designs to identify potential risks, issues, or conflicts, and propose solutions or modifications as necessary.
Participate in project meetings, presentations, and discussions to communicate progress, updates, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Conduct site visits and inspections as needed to assess existing conditions, troubleshoot problems, and verify compliance with design specifications.
Stay current with advancements in electrical design technology, tools, and techniques, and integrate them into project workflows to enhance efficiency and quality.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical design and engineering, with a focus on industrial projects.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, Microstation, or similar tools, for electrical system layout and drafting.
Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, practices, and standards, including NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and local building codes.
Experience with electrical load calculations, power distribution systems, lighting design, low-voltage systems, equipment controls and instrumentation.
Demonstrated expertise in designing electrical systems for industrial applications.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and propose sound solutions.
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality in all aspects of work, with a focus on delivering projects on time and within budget.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle is required.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in a regular office environment.
Travel to client sites is required on occasion to attend meetings and to conduct field visits.
