About The Role
At Blinkist, we're passionate about creating products that inspire millions to learn and grow. We're looking for someone to join our platform enablement (DevOps) team, filling a new role to ensure our engineers have all the tools they need to ship their code in a timely and efficient manner.
In this job, you will be working with tools across AWS, GitHub Actions, DataDog, Docker, and more. Our new DevOps engineer will make meaningful technical decisions that create positive impact to make the lives of our engineers easier.
We're looking for someone who is a junior or mid-level software or DevOps engineer with 2-5 years of experience and is driven by learning and results. You bring curiosity and a willingness to challenge yourself and others constructively. You should either already be a DevOps specialist, or come from a development background with some DevOps touchpoints (e.g. CI/CD, AWS, monitoring, containerisation, infrastructure-as-code, etc.).
What You'll Do
Manage and maintain entire Blinkist infrastructure (e.g. DataDog, Cloudflare, AWS, Terraform)
Act as a consultant to engineers: Respond to engineering requests for assistance, access, or clarification on platform requirements/settings.
Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting systems: Define SLOs; Set up DataDog dashboards; Add Monitors; etc.
Document infrastructure and processes: Maintain clear, up-to-date documentation to ensure knowledge sharing and quick engineer/team onboarding.
Collaborate with Backend/Mobile/Web engineers to make sure our platform is operating at optimal efficiency and observability.
Evaluate and adopt new tools: Research and recommend new technologies that improve developer efficiency or infrastructure reliability.
Create and optimize developer workflows (e.g. deployments, secret management, security scanning, AI tools, etc.)
Perform cost optimizations: Analyze our AWS/Cloudflare usage, optimize resources, recommend solutions to reduce costs without sacrificing performance.
What We're Looking For
2-5 years of work experience.
1+ years of DevOps experience: Ideally you have already built and scaled production systems.
Proficient in at least one programming language.
Docker experience: Strong knowledge of creating and maintaining Dockerfiles and multi-stage builds, familiarity with Docker Compose for local development and testing.
Terraform experience: You are already familiar with designing, deploying, and managing infrastructure as code across cloud environments.
Willingness and enthusiasm for supporting engineers and their teams.
Collaborative approach: You enjoy working with others to solve problems and move projects forward.
Proficiency in English (the Blinkist working language).
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience or knowledge of GitHub Actions
Experience or knowledge of Ruby: Most Blinkist microservices are written and maintained in Ruby
Interest and knowledge in security topics (e.g. Docker image vulnerability scanning, code security tools, etc.)
Knowledge about DataDog APM tracing \& logging, SLOs, and defining own metrics
Bonus points if you know ECS Fargate or worked with it!
Certification or degree in software engineering, QA, cybersecurity, platform engineering, or similar.
