We are seeking a visionary Principal Engineer – End to End Integration to lead BNZ’s strategic direction in Testing Environments, testing methodologies, integration patterns, and database technologies to understanding a wide range of banking systems.

What are the responsibilities the person in this role will have?

Responsibilities as the Principal Engineer, you will assist, automate and implement scalable testing patterns, evaluate tools, troubleshoot issues and establish best practices for testing, transformation, and analytics. You will provide technical leadership for our Testing Practices, SDLC phasing and test platform reliability.

You will mentor and guide engineers at all levels, conduct training sessions, and promote continuous learning and technical excellence. Your leadership will inspire innovation, align strategies, and strengthen BNZ’s Testing capabilities and environments.

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?

This critical role shapes our long-term technology testing strategy in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices, troubleshooting system and test issues, driving innovation while fostering collaboration and alignment.

What will success look like for the candidate in this role?

Success in this role will look like a well-maintained, reliable end-to-end test environment that enables fast, confident delivery across multiple systems and integration points. The successful candidate will have established strong automation practices and frameworks that reduce manual effort, improve test coverage, and provide clear visibility of quality across the delivery pipeline. They will demonstrate technical strength in integration testing, ensuring data and process flows between applications are validated early and consistently. Ultimately, success means becoming a trusted partner to both development and operations teams—streamlining release cycles, lifting quality assurance maturity, and driving continuous improvement in how testing supports business outcome.

What specific tech skills would be beneficial?

We are looking for a technical leader with extensive experience in integration technologies, test automation development, application integration, databases, and messaging systems. This includes:* Scripting \& Automation

Pipelines – Jenkins, Spinnaker

Proxies \& Gateways – Kong, F5

Containers – OpenShift, EKS, Kubernetes

Load balancers – HA Proxy, F5

Queues and event streaming – Kafka, MQ

Monitoring – Splunk, Dynatrace and others

Strong understanding of security (i.e. secret management, vulnerability scanning, certification management, etc)

SDLC practices and any development background

Source Code Management or experience with GIT and GitOps

Bonus is any expertise in Kafka or Mainframe
