The Manager Cyber Security Engineering is a highly technical and strategic leadership role charged with leading a team of Software Developers, Security Engineers and Machine Learning Scientists. This role drives the design, delivery, and operational excellence of Booking.com’s bespoke security automation platforms responsible for prevention and detection of security issues affecting Booking.com’s travellers and partners.
You will define and execute the delivery strategy for security tools and automation and develop robust engineering practices within the team. Collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, and other Cyber Security functions, you will continuously enhance Booking.com’s security posture, ensuring that the whole user journey is protected.
The role requires strong people leadership, deep technical expertise in security engineering and secure software development, and proven ability to manage complex security technology projects. You will drive continuous improvement, champion best practices, and support the operational resilience of the security capabilities owned by your team.
The Team
Our team is specialized in building, operating, and continuously enhancing the organization’s detection and prevention capabilities that protect the company’s main products. The team collaborates deeply with Software Engineering, Product, Platform, and other Cyber Security teams to identify, prioritize, and reduce security risks throughout the journey of travellers and partners across Booking.com’s applications.
Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Lead, manage, and coach a team of Security Engineers, Machine Learning Scientists and Software Developers building and operating automations that protect travellers and partners journey on Booking.com applications.
Define, own, and execute the operational and delivery strategy for the security tools and platforms developed by the team.
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of custom security software, pipelines, and integrations.
Partner with Product Managers, Engineering, Platform, and Cyber Security teams to create delivery roadmaps, manage dependencies, and align on priorities.
Ensure that all team-owned security platforms are healthy, efficient, scalable, compliant, and operate within agreed SLAs/KPIs.
Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement in software development, delivery, and runtime reliability.
Act as a Subject Matter Expert on security automation, providing direction and thought leadership both within and outside the team.
Identify and manage technical and operational risks related to team deliverables, and facilitate rapid risk remediation.
Foster a culture of innovation, technical rigor, and continuous learning.
Role Qualifications and Requirements:
Demonstrated expertise in Security Engineering, particularly in software development, detection and prevention domains.
Strong experience managing high-performing technical teams, ideally with direct exposure to software development of security systems in large-scale technology environments.
Solid understanding of secure design principles, and developer-centric security tooling.
Excellent people leadership, coaching, and talent development skills.
Ability to translate high-level security strategy and business needs into actionable technical roadmaps for the team.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with proven experience working closely with senior engineering and product stakeholders.
Continuous improvement mindset and ability to drive operational excellence in technical teams.
Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required in a technical or related field (Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, etc.).
Master’s degree is advantageous.
Experience
3–5 years of experience in technical team leadership or people management roles in security engineering, secure software development, or related fields.
Advanced experience designing, building, and/or operating security systems.
Hands-on experience managing the full software development lifecycle for team-owned security technology.
Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CSSLP, GCIH, OSCP) are a plus.
Other Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to operate in a technology-driven, high-scale environment.
Track record of delivering complex technical projects and supporting high-reliability security operations.
Strong cross-functional collaboration, influencing, and negotiation skills.
