Backend Engineer

We’re seeking a pragmatic and product-minded Backend Engineer to help power the heart of Breeze’s dating experience, building the APIs and systems that turn matches into real-life dates.

Whether you’ve just graduated or already have some experience, you’ll join a small, fast-moving team where you can learn quickly, take ownership, and see your work directly impact how hundreds of thousands of people meet offline.

About Breeze

At Breeze, we are building towards a future where people spend less time on their phones and more time connecting in real life.

The Breeze app is the dating app for real dates. We've built the world's first service that organises actual offline dates at scale. On Breeze, users skip the online chat: once you match, you pick a time, and we organise a real-life date at one of our partnered venues.

So far we've organised over half a million dates and are live in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, the UK and New York.

About The Role

You’ll be part of the

Dating Machine

product team: the engine that powers Breeze’s core experience, from matching to meeting IRL. You’ll work closely with frontend engineers and product teammates to design reliable, secure, and scalable APIs that support new user-facing features and keep our core matchmaking engine running smoothly.

This is a

hands-on role with lots of learning and impact

: you’ll work mostly in Go, supported by experienced mentors, and have room to explore beyond your scope, whether that’s product thinking, analytics, or infrastructure.

Examples of projects include improving our matchmaking system, overhauling our cancellation policy logic, refactoring the date picker, building an in-house notification system, or improving our cloud architecture and QA tooling.

What You'll Do

Build backend features with Go that directly power Breeze’s user experience.

Collaborate with teammates across product and tech to design APIs and system flows.

Learn about cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and scalable design by contributing to shared backend systems.

Take ownership of projects end-to-end — from design to testing and deployment.

Improve code quality and reliability through reviews and continuous iteration.

About You

Technically strong \& eager to learn: You have 0–3 years of experience in software/backend engineering. You’re motivated to keep learning backend engineering, architecture, and product design.

Pragmatic \& curious: You move fast without compromising quality. You like figuring things out, asking good questions, and building MVPs that work.

Product-minded: You care about the people using what you build and want to understand how your work impacts the user experience and business.

Proactive: You take ownership, raise issues early, and follow through, doing what is needed to deliver efficient solutions to a high standard.

Collaborative: You enjoy working closely in a small team, taking feedback, and sharing ideas.

💰 Compensation \& Benefits

Competitive salary: €4.000 – €6.000 per month, depending on experience.

25 vacation days + 8% holiday allowance.

Travel expenses covered and an office a minute from Rotterdam Central.

Hybrid setup (3 days at the office).
