Lead Android Developer

Contract to Hire

Hybrid in Dallas, TX

Foot Locker, Inc. is seeking a Lead Engineer to serve as technical lead for our remote US-based Android development team. As a Lead Engineer, you will oversee code development for our Android mobile platform which enables millions of customers to engage with Foot Locker brands through eCommerce, loyalty, and new product launch experiences. You are responsible for implementing technical strategy and product roadmap, maintaining the Android CI/CD pipeline and ensuring overall code quality of our Android codebase. This is a hands-on software development role, where you will be actively coding.

Responsibilities

· Collaborate with a team of talented Android engineers!

· Work closely with Mobile Management, Product Managers, UI/UX, ADA (Accessibility), and Back-End teams to execute mobile application development strategies and implement technical roadmaps aligned with Foot Locker's objectives.

· Foster the growth of developers' technical skills by offering constructive feedback through PR reviews, technical discussions, and individual guidance. Serve as a technical mentor.

· Provide constructive PR comments and encourage team members to do the same, ultimately overseeing all Android PR approvals.

· Collaborate with other Foot Locker technical teams to understand integrations and advocate for improvements that benefit the mobile development team; identify and document tech debt and communicate these with mobile app leadership team.

· Actively participate in the incident management process when Android production issues arise, providing regular tactical updates to leadership and assisting in timely resolutions.

· Take responsibility for the Android build pipeline, ensuring builds are operational, handling build breaks promptly, and ensuring proper functioning of integrations.

· Work with other technical leads and architects across Foot Locker to document and implement consistent development practices and standards across the mobile development organization.

· Assist in removing blockers to help developers meet sprint commitments, proactively supporting engineers when needed.

· Lead tech refinement meetings to bridge the gap from product to dev and break down stories into technical tasks.

· Lead by example – ensure that your own code is well designed and well documented.

· Responsible for overall code branching strategy and implementation including maintaining release branches and handling merge-backs.

· Responsible for technical documentation - ensure code is well documented via PR reviews, and feature documentation is available in Confluences.

· Monitor analytics reporting and ensure issues are logged and triaged.

· Lead initiatives to improve overall code quality, incorporating tactics like static code analysis and unit testing, while mentoring developers to enhance individual technical skills.

· Contribute to a safe environment where all employees are encouraged to experiment, make mistakes and share learnings with the team.

· Support learning culture within the mobile team, regularly show your own work at Android tech team meetings and recognize / showcase good work from others in the team.

· Collaborate with 3rd party Android developers. Ensure they have any necessary resources and validate that any code produced is up to Foot Locker standards.

· Participate in technical evaluation / interviews of Android developer candidates.

· Stay up to date on trends from Android / Google and evangelize these with mobile team management and within the mobile development pod.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or equivalent experience

· Minimum of 7 years hands-on experience with the Android platform.

· Minimum of 5 years hands-on Kotlin development experience.

· Experience setting up and maintaining a modern Android CI/CD pipeline.

· Hands-on experience with agile development methodologies.

· Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Work Environment

· Position can be performed remotely, anywhere in the US.

· On-call support may be required.

· Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.

· Ability to travel up to 5%.

Technical Skills

· Kotlin, Android Studio, Jetpack Compose, Gradle, JSON, REST, 3rd party SDK’s.

· Firebase, Crashlytics, Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Veracode, Airship.
