The Breakdown:

As a Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in developing solutions on the Azure Cloud, employing core data warehouse tools such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and other Big Data technologies. The Data Engineer will work with the latest technology solutions in the industry and actively participate in brainstorming and solution design sessions along with other Data Engineers.

The Data Engineer will work with high volume data with high rates of transactions and large data ETL pipelines that support our business partners’ objectives. This role emphasizes application-level data engineering rather than infrastructure and will focus on delivering high value solutions to Burton.

What You Get to Do:

Work closely with Applications, BI \& Analytics, and Infrastructure teams to own and implement an end-to-end data strategy from data ingest to output into business tools.

Have experience designing and implementing maintainable data models across relational and cloud-based data environments, using modern architectural patterns to organize and transform raw data into business-ready insight.

Develop and update data pipelines to be streamlined and scalable.

Translate functional and business requirements into technical designs and specification documents.

Support the project planning process by providing design consulting, task sizing, and discovery assistance.

Manage day-to-day support of solutions including monitoring of data pipelines.

Assist business and IT peers in prototyping and proof-of-concept efforts.

Follow team standards to ensure consistency of documentation, release management, and policy compliance processes.

Consult with Data Management to ensure compliance with customer data privacy laws; GCPR, CCPA, SHIELD ACT.

Work with the Data Management team to ensure work is compliant with covering enterprise metadata standards, guidelines, and processes.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

3-5+ years of relevant professional experience.

Preferred Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering or another relevant field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also suffice.

Experience with Data Engineering and Warehousing tools like Databricks, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, etc.

Experience with modern languages like Python, Java, C#, Scala, R etc.

2+years of experience and proficiency with SQL, familiarity of T-SQL is preferred.

2+ years of experience in business process mapping of data and analytics solutions.

Experience consuming and publishing RESTFulAPI’s, SOAP, GraphQL and FTP services.

Experience working with XML, JSON, CSV, and Parquet data formats.

Knowledge of change control processes and using tools like GIT, Azure DevOps and CI/CD (using ARM, YAML, Terraform).

Knowledge of Azure solutions like ADF, Data LakeGen2, Azure SQL DW, Azure SQL, Service Bus, Event Hub, Streaming Analytics, Logic Apps and Functions are preferred.

Exposure to Master Data Management (MDM) and Data Quality tools and processes preferred.

Established record of working independently, coordinating release trains, and producing results on schedule.​

Excellent communication skills with non-technical client stakeholders and the ability to act as a business-to-technical translator.

Strong team collaboration and ability to work with the business partners.

The ability to solve business problems using data pipelines, data streams, and system integration.

Databricks Data Engineer Associate/Professional certification preferred

Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification preferred

This is an on-site role, based in Burlington, VT. We will offer relocation assistance to move to Vermont to any candidate who is hired.

The hiring range for this role is $110,000-120,000, depending on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, and available budget. Please note that the range details above reflect the base pay only and does not include any potential bonus and other benefits that we offer.
