About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Superintendent, Projects and Infrastructure, the Mechanical Projects Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of mechanical capital and sustaining projects that support open pit mining, fixed plant operations, and site infrastructure at Mount Milligan Mine. The role leads scope definition, engineering oversight, procurement support, construction execution, and commissioning while managing contractors and coordinating closely with Operations, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Environment Health and Safety. The position requires disciplined project controls, field presence, and sound technical judgement to ensure projects achieve intended safety, reliability, schedule, and cost outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop project charters, scopes of work, and execution strategies for mechanical projects in an operating mine environment

Prepare estimates, schedules, and approval packages, including business case justification, risk assessment, and execution readiness

Establish design basis, performance criteria, and operating requirements in collaboration with Operations and Maintenance

Define contracting and procurement strategies, including long lead equipment identification and expediting requirements

Lead projects through concept, study, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout

Maintain project controls including scope management, cost tracking, schedule control, change management, and risk registers

Coordinate outages, tie ins, and commissioning windows with Operations and Maintenance to minimize production impacts

Identify deviations to plan and implement corrective actions, escalating issues with clear recommendations

Ensure project activities comply with site safety standards, engineering governance, and regulatory requirements as applicable

Lead hazard identification and risk assessments, verify critical controls, and support incident investigations and corrective actions

Support Management of Change processes to ensure operational readiness and safe handover

Maintain visible field presence to verify safe work practices and quality of work completed

Develop bid packages and contractor scopes, participate in tender evaluations, and support award recommendations

Manage contractor performance for safety, quality, schedule, and cost, including verification of progress and deliverables

Coordinate procurement of equipment and services through Supply Chain, including vendor engagement and document control

Manage contract variations and support resolution of claims through disciplined scope definition and change control

About You

Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Professional Engineer registration or eligibility for registration with EGBC

Valid class 5 driver’s license, required

Project Management certification, an asset.

Minimum of 5 years experience delivering mechanical capital or sustaining projects in mining, heavy industrial, or process plant environments

Experience working in an operating site environment with construction and commissioning exposure

Experience managing contractors and service providers, including tendering, performance management, and change control

Mechanical systems engineering for heavy industrial and mining applications, including equipment selection, specification, and integration with existing operating assets

Rotating equipment fundamentals, including pumps, fans, blowers, gearboxes, conveyors, and drive systems, with ability to review sizing, duty point, NPSH, efficiency, and operating limits

Piping and pipeline systems knowledge, including line sizing, hydraulic calculations, head loss, slurry and water service considerations, surge awareness, valve selection, and pipe support requirements

Practical understanding of materials of construction, corrosion mechanisms, erosion wear, and abrasion controls for mining service, including slurry handling and high solids environments

Ability to develop and review mechanical specifications, datasheets, purchase requisitions, scopes of work, and technical bid evaluations for equipment and contractor services

Competence reviewing and marking up mechanical drawings and models, including GA drawings, P and IDs,isometrics, equipment arrangements, and vendor drawings, with clear constructability feedback

Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards relevant to mine mechanical systems, including ASME and CSA requirements as applicable to pressure piping, lifting devices, and mechanical equipment

Field engineering and construction support capability, including installation verification, punch listing, quality checks, and resolution of field fit issues through disciplined redline control and change management

Commissioning and start up support, including pre commissioning checklists, system walkdowns, test plans, alignment with operating procedures, and performance verification against design criteria

•Maintenance and reliability awareness, including failure modes, lubrication fundamentals, basic vibration and condition monitoring concepts, and design for maintainability, access, and isolation

Ability to define and verify quality requirements, including inspection and test plans, turnover documentation, pressure tests, functional testing, and compilation of commissioning records

Working knowledge of engineering document control, including revision control, transmittals, vendor data management, and turnover package completeness

Strong understanding of mine site constraints and interfaces, including mobile equipment interactions, isolation and lockout requirements, confined space considerations, and critical control verification during project execution

Proficiency with common engineering and project tools including Microsoft Excel for calculations and tracking, SAP for procurement and cost visibility, and scheduling tools such as MS Project is a requirement

Working Conditions

Camp-based role working:

  • 12-hour days on a 14 day on/14 day off rotation

Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.

PPE always required.

Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.

Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
