Job Overview Cogent People is seeking a skilled and motivated Application Developer with a solid foundation in software development and DevSecOps. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to apply their technical background in a hands-on development role while continuing to grow within a dynamic and collaborative IT team.
You will support the development and maintenance of scalable software solutions that power business operations. The ideal candidate is eager to contribute to enterprise application development and integration in an AWS environment, with working knowledge of Java and Python. You’ll collaborate with experienced developers and stakeholders to support the full development lifecycle.
Responsibilities * Assist in designing and developing software components, data products, and user interfaces * Support the development of AWS-based enterprise services using Java and Python * Lead development of analytical and AI/ML functionality * Provide IT support for mission-critical business operations * Collaborate with senior developers and stakeholders on system integrations and feature development * Participate in analyzing, debugging, and optimizing existing code for performance and functionality * Write and execute unit tests; support integration and regression testing * Contribute to technical documentation and team code reviews * Stay current with tools and trends in software development, AWS services, and DevSecOps practices
Requirements * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field—or equivalent experience * 5+ years of professional IT experience, with at least 3–5 years in application development * Hands-on experience coding in Java and Python * Exposure to AI/ML development * Experience with AWS cloud services for development and hosting * Experience with databases (Oracle preferred) and understanding of data warehousing concepts * Proven knowledge of Linux systems and shell scripting * Experience with DevSecOps practices, such as CI/CD, IaC (via Terraform), and IT operations automation * Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment * Self-starter with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications * Familiarity with agile development methodologies * AWS certification * Experience working in regulated industries (e.g., federal government, healthcare)
