You’ll be part of the Honey Badger Squad within the Open Data \& Identity Crew, a team driving innovation and ensuring compliance in Australia’s Open Banking ecosystem. As the country’s largest holder of Open Banking data, we enable secure data sharing and consent management for millions of customers. As a Staff Engineer, you will be a technical leader within CBA’s Open Banking domain, shaping the architecture, reliability, and security of our customer data sharing platforms. You will provide deep expertise across Identity \& Access Management (IAM), secure integration patterns, and high-scale distributed systems. You will design and evolve AWS-based, .NET microservices running on EKS, champion engineering excellence, and embed modern observability and operational practices. As a technical leader, you will also influence cross-squad technical direction, uplift engineering maturity, and ensure production readiness for critical banking services.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

Possesses full-cycle engineering experience: ideation, technical design, build, testing (unit, integration, system), release, and ongoing maintenance.

Collaborates with peers and helps grow capabilities within the squad and across the crew.

Actively embraces and integrates AI-driven solutions (including LLMs and agentic AI approaches) to enhance our engineering workflows and product capabilities.

Provides technical governance and guidance throughout the complete solution delivery lifecycle.

Works independently and drive a culture where quality, excellence and openness are championed.

Are passionate about learning new tools and technologies and are constantly thinking outside the box.

Designs, documents and implements solutions to distribute source system data via bulk interfaces.

Contributes to complex delivery planning by providing guidance and oversight to ensure that technical deliveries are aligned with engineering direction and strategy.

Have ability to constructively challenge the status quo while influencing stakeholders at various levels.

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

Identity \& Access Management (IAM) concepts: Authentication, authorisation, token handling, familiarity with OpenID Connect (OIDC) standards.

Identity Platforms: Ping Identity preferred, Okta, ForgeRock, AWS Cognito, or Azure Active Directory.

.NET Framework for identity-related microservices and API development.

Cloud Expertise: AWS (EKS, EC2, Lambda, S3, IAM policies, networking).

Scripting Languages: Python (preferred), Perl or similar for automation.

Containerisation \& Orchestration: Kubernetes (EKS, ECS).

DevSecOps \& CI/CD: Expertise in Build pipelines (GitHub Actions), IaC (Terraform or CloudFormation), security controls, automation.

Observability \& Monitoring: Prometheus and Grafana.

System Engineering: Certificate renewals, vulnerability management, uptime and resilience strategies.

Any experience with the following would be great - AI-assisted engineering practices (code generation, test automation, documentation optimisation), regulated platforms or financial service
