Synopsis
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Data Standards Body (DSB) and across government to deliver high quality regulatory standards.
The DSB supports the Data Standards Chair who is responsible for making the Data Standards that are necessary for the effective operation of Australia’s Digital ID System and the Consumer Data Right (CDR) regulatory frameworks. The DSB is part of Treasury’s Digital, Competition and Payments Division in Markets Group.
Further information about the CDR and Digital ID Data Standards, for which the Data Standards Chair is responsible, can be found on the DSB’s website: Data Standards Body. The Data Standards set requirements for entities to build to and comply with in order to share data in compliance with the regulatory frameworks of the CDR and Digital ID. The Data Standards Body does not receive, store or analyse any data captured in accordance with the Data Standards.
Key duties of the position
Role
The Full Stack Engineer will play a key role in delivering technical capabilities that support standards development, testing, publication and implementation support across the CDR and the Australian Government Digital ID programs. Under limited direction, the role would be expected to:
Design, build, test and maintain full-stack applications, reference implementations, testing tools and internal systems supporting standards development, delivery and support services.
Provide engineering input into standards design and option development processes, working with solution architects and industry stakeholders to assess implementation feasibility and technical change impacts.
Collaborate closely with product owners, architects, testers and analysts to translate standards requirements into working implementations.
Apply DevOps practices to foster a culture of collaboration, automation, and continuous improvement.
Deliver high-quality solutions to meet customer needs quickly and securely, with a focus on efficiency, reliability and stability.
Champion coding, testing, and documentation practices.
Contribute to planning, estimation and continuous improvement initiatives across the DSB.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
The candidate must:
Have advanced experience across backend, frontend and cloud engineering in modern environments, preferably with strong experience in NodeJS, TypeScript, AWS and Azure.
Have experience designing and implementing APIs, microservices or distributed systems.
Be familiar with modern version control systems.
Demonstrate strong understanding of modern development practices including Agile methodologies, DevOps principles, CI/CD, automated testing, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud-native architecture.
Demonstrate capability in delivering high-quality, secure and maintainable software solutions.
Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking skills, with a user-oriented approach.
Have strong communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Be able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
The candidate will be very well regarded if they can demonstrate:
Experience developing reference implementations, developer tooling or standards-related technical artefacts.
Experience in identity, data-sharing, security protocols or regulated technology domain.
Experience contributing to open-source project.
