Fully remote (NZ-based). Optional 2 days/week in Auckland or Christchurch for co-working. You'll work directly with founders, ship to real users and learn new things every week.
Role
We are seeking a full-time Founding Software Engineer to join Comply Copilot in a in person, hybrid or remote role.
As a key team member, you will develop and maintain scalable software solutions, design and implement innovative back-end systems, and collaborate with stakeholders to build a high-performance product.
You’ll be instrumental in defining the technical architecture, writing clean and efficient code, and ensuring the delivery of seamless user experiences.
You'll thrive if you like to:

This is an equity role. You're a partner, not a contractor. You care about what gets delivered and whether it works for users – not just closing tickets.
2. Think in systems
You're a first-principles thinker. You strategise the big picture, break it into shippable pieces, deploy the first version, and iterate based on what you learn from users every fortnight.
3. Ship weekly
We deploy every 2-3 days. You love tight feedback loops with users. No 6-month waterfalls, no endless planning docs. Build small, ship fast, learn, repeat.
4. Work with a high functioning team
We're building something together. If you prefer working solo in a dark cupboard without checking in, we're not for you.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
Experience with Back-End Web Development, Software Development, and Programming practices
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote, dynamic environment
Experience at a startup or on early-stage projects is a plus
Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation
