Job Description

As a Senior Frontend Engineer in the Backbone Player team, you'll work on the company's flagship product, the HTML video player. Our video player is used by more than 300 million users every month, directly on our platform and on high-traffic websites using our technology.

Reporting to the VP Engineering you will join the Player Perf team, and work with a diverse group of people from around the world, all of them committed in improving our video player – in a caring, agile and highly-technical environment.

You will collaborate with experienced engineers, infrastructure, devops, product managers, designers and data analysts across the company, to deliver features to our users and publishers, with a focus on video streaming experience.

Our remote policy is quite flexible, and it's fine if you choose to work from home. Or you can also enjoy our very nice office located in the heart of Sophia-Antipolis.

The ideal candidate has a collaborative mindset, a demonstrated experience building and delivering high-performance web applications, and a strong taste for finely crafted products.

Responsibilities

- Contribute to the team effort to develop new features, fix bugs and deliver a state of the art user experience to a variety of browsers and devices (mobiles, tablets, desktops)- Maintain existing codebase, with a focus on the HTML video player, and contribute to keep it up to date with current technology and best practices (tests, coding guidelines, continuous deployment)

Write and maintain technical specifications and technical documentation about the codebase

Take part in a collaborative culture that encourages every member of our team to bring their added value

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to growth of the team

Qualifications* Strong proficiency with Git

Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS (vanilla) and JavaScript (vanilla)

Strong proficiency in standard web development (how the web platform works outside of any framework or library)

Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks \& state management (ideally React/Preact)

Experience in performance initiatives like observability, monitoring, code optimization, runtime and bundle analysis

Experience with build tools (Webpack, Rollup, esbuild...)

Experience with unit tests tools (Jasmine, Jest, Vitest...)

Professional experience building advanced reactive web applications using modern tooling

Professional experience with development best practices (unit tests, functional tests, CI, code reviews, documentation, agile processes)

Strong teamwork mindset (work with the team and for the team)

Excellent problem-solving analytical skills

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Comfortable speaking in English

Bonus points

Experience with standard HTML5 video API

Experience with browser-based testing frameworks (Cypress, Playwright)

Experience with adaptive streaming format such as HLS or MPEG-DASH (ideally https://github.com/video-dev/hls.js as Dailymotion Player relies on it)
