We’re looking for a highly skilled

Senior Cloud Engineer

to lead the design, delivery, and optimisation of cloud-based solutions for a

Federal Government client

.

This role will play a key part in delivering AI-related deployments and proof of concepts, shaping the Agency's pattern-based approach to cloud engineering, and contributing to the broader cloud roadmap.

Contract

: 6 months with possible extensions

Location

: Open to candidates based in ACT, NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, or TAS (hybrid available)

Security Clearance

: Must be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain

Baseline clearance

Key Responsibilities

Lead the architecture, deployment, and management of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards for the agency

Drive cloud automation and orchestration to reduce manual effort and improve reliability

Ensure compliance with ISM, PSPF, and Australian Government cyber security frameworks

Provide strategic guidance on cloud adoption, optimisation, and technology selection

Manage and optimise multi-cloud environments for security, cost, and performance

Mentor technical teams and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement

Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical outcomes

Operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment

Required Skills and Experience

Deep experience in cloud engineering and architecture within complex environments

Strong hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP (and their core services)

Proficiency in networking, identity management, and cloud security in a government context

Experience with automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar

Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)

Proven leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills

Ability to manage competing priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes
