About the role
Imagine taking the responsibility for testing and validating our next generation propulsion systems. . The Jet Engine Test Engineer is crucial for the development and validation of our next-generation propulsion systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, execution, and analysis of test campaigns for small- to medium-sized jet engines and components, specifically those producing up to 150 kg of static thrust. This position requires hands-on experience in a test cell environment, a strong foundation in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics, and a commitment to rigorous safety and quality standards.
At Destinus, we are revolutionizing the defense industry with cutting-edge Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Our innovative technologies are designed to meet the unique demands of modern defense operations, delivering unparalleled speed, precision, and cost effectiveness. Destinus partners with government agencies and defense organizations worldwide to provide advanced solutions for mission-critical operations, enabling a new era of efficiency and technological superiority. Join us in shaping the future of defense with groundbreaking aerospace innovations.
What You´ll Do
Design and define detailed test plans, procedures, and instrumentation requirements for turbojet engines and associated components (e.g., combustors, intakes, nozzles).
Operate and maintain the engine test cell and associated equipment, ensuring all systems are calibrated and functioning correctly.
Execute engine test runs, meticulously monitoring engine performance parameters (e.g., rotational speed, exhaust gas temperature, fuel flow, thrust) in real-time.
Manage the data acquisition system, process large datasets, analyse test results, and generate comprehensive technical reports detailing performance results and further conclusions from the test campaign.
Develop and maintain robust post-processing tools (using MATLAB, Python, etc.) to automate data reduction, visualization, and performance calculations.
Perform calibration and maintain strict quality control over all critical sensors, including those for thrust, flow, vibrations, temperature, and pressure.
Gradually add functionality to the test rig infrastructure, such as systems for conditioning inlet air (pressure, temperature) or conditioning fuel (type, temperature).
Perform root cause analysis and technical troubleshooting on engine and test rig issues during and after testing.
Ensure all test operations adhere strictly to established safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.
Work closely with design, aerodynamics, and quality assurance teams to provide feedback for engine iteration and improvement.
Requirements
What You’ll Need
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience (3+ years) in testing turbojet, turbofan, or ramjet engines.
Strong understanding of gas turbine engine thermodynamics, performance cycles, and instrumentation (pressure, temperature, thrust, flow, and vibrations).
Experience with data acquisition software (e.g., HBM catman, National Instruments LabVIEW) and data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel).
Fluency in English (written and verbal).
Familiarity with high-altitude flight testing considerations.
Knowledge of European aerospace standards (e.g., EASA).
Who You Are
You are hands on, analytical, and steady under pressure. You bring a strong technical foundation in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics and you know how to apply that knowledge in a real test cell environment. You work with precision, follow safety procedures without compromise, and maintain high quality standards even during fast paced test cycles. You communicate clearly, document your work thoroughly, and collaborate smoothly with engineering teams. You thrive in environments where accuracy matters and you take ownership of every test you run.
