As a Software Backend Engineer, you will design, implement, and operate backend services powering marketplace products. This role requires strong expertise in Java or Kotlin, with preferred proficiency in NodeJS. You will contribute independently to feature development and subsystem enhancements. The ideal candidate practices SOLID design principles and demonstrates robust engineering skills across object-oriented programming (OOP), multithreading, and data modeling.
Responsibilities
Translate product and design documentation into working code independently.
Develop backend services and feature enhancements, primarily in Java/Kotlin; NodeJS proficiency is highly preferred.
Design and implement APIs and data models; ensure system reliability, performance, and observability.
Practice and promote SOLID principles, OOP, and multithreaded engineering practices in daily work.
Implement unit tests and contribute to continuous integration and automated testing processes.
Collaborate effectively with product and design teams to refine specifications and advocate for best engineering practices.
Identify, analyze, and independently resolve technical problems and production issues; proactively raise blockers before they impact delivery.
Contribute to team code reviews, documentation, and onboarding of new engineers.
Continuously seek feedback and look for opportunities to improve self, the team, and engineering standards.
Required Skills \& Experience
Proficient in Java or Kotlin; strong understanding of core backend development concepts.
Good knowledge of NodeJS and modern development frameworks.
Deep experience with SOLID design principles, OOP, multithreading, and data modeling.
3+ years professional experience in backend engineering or equivalent practical experience.
Ability to work autonomously on engineering tasks within applications or services.
Experience implementing unit tests independently and working within CI/CD pipelines.
Strong debugging, code quality, and communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with databases such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or Elasticsearch.
Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred), feature flag systems, and infrastructure as code tools.
