About the team and the role:
The eBay Cloud team powers the core infrastructure that supports thousands of eBay applications. We run one of the industry’s largest private cloud platforms built on open-source technology — operating hundreds of Kubernetes clusters and millions of compute instances.
Our mission is to provide end-to-end governance and lifecycle support for all eBay applications running on our platform. We continuously enhance the platform’s cloud-native capabilities to ensure applications are scalable, reliable, efficient, and secure.
We’re looking for an experienced Cloud Platform Engineer to join our team. In this role, you’ll design, implement, and manage the tools and systems that power the application lifecycle on our private cloud. You’ll focus on improving developer productivity through CI/CD automation, ensuring platform security and compliance, and driving the adoption of modern cloud-native practices.
What you will accomplish:
Lead the design and management of the full lifecycle for eBay’s cloud-native products and services, supporting diverse applications from backend systems to Machine Learning and GenAI workloads.
Build intuitive user interfaces and custom CLIs that simplify cloud operations and accelerate developer workflows.
Continuously integrate emerging open-source technologies (e.g., Kubernetes) to deliver a reliable, secure, and scalable cloud platform.
Develop automation and diagnostic tools in Go and Java to optimize performance and streamline operations.
Partner with internal teams to validate, adopt, and integrate new capabilities across the eBay Cloud platform.
Architect observability frameworks that deliver deep insight into application health, enabling proactive monitoring and fast issue resolution.
What you will bring:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of hands-on experience building and managing cloud platforms with a strong focus on cloud-native application lifecycle management.
Proficiency in programming with Java, Go, or Python.
Deep expertise in container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and developing scalable, reliable lifecycle management systems.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify system-level issues and drive cross-functional solutions.
Demonstrated experience mentoring team members, leading small-scale projects, and collaborating across teams to deliver impactful outcomes.
