Role Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to support the financial management of our solar plant construction projects. This role is responsible for monitoring project costs, ensuring accurate day-to-day accounting, and maintaining strong financial controls throughout each project lifecycle. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and comfortable working closely with suppliers, project teams, and management.
Responsibilities: Daily Accounting \& Bookkeeping
Maintain accurate bookkeeping for all project-related transactions and for the legal entity.
Ensure proper coding of costs to work breakdown structures (WBS) or cost centres.
Reconcile supplier invoices, delivery orders, purchase orders, and progress claims.
Perform monthly accounting close processes for project financials.
Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close activities
Supplier \& Payment Management
Manage supplier payments, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contract terms and credit arrangements.
Liaise with suppliers on payment schedules, credit terms, and resolution of billing discrepancies.
Maintain an up-to-date accounts payable ageing report and ensure timely settlements.
Tax \& Compliance
Ensure all required taxes (e.g., GST, withholding tax, local filing obligations) are calculated, recorded, and submitted on time.
Maintain proper documentation to support compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate and liaising with external auditors, tax agents, ATO and regulatory authorities as needed.
Project Cost Monitoring \& Reporting
Continuously track and compare actual project costs against approved budgets.
Analyse variances, identify cost overruns or savings, and provide timely explanations to management.
Prepare forecasts of remaining project expenditure and updated total cost-to-complete projections.
Support project managers with financial insights for effective cost control and decision-making.
Financial Due Diligence
Prepare and organize project financial data, documents, and schedules required for due diligence exercises during project sales.
Work closely with internal teams (finance, legal, project) to ensure complete and accurate financial information is available for potential buyers.
Assist in responding to buyer queries, extraction of supporting documents.
Other Responsibilities
Assist in preparing project financial statements, management reports, and cashflow forecasts.
Support internal process improvements, particularly in areas involving procurement, project controls, and financial accuracy.
Work closely with project managers, procurement teams, and finance leadership to ensure consistent financial governance across all projects.
System Implementation
Support system design, setup, user testing, implementation, migration and go-live
Document, refine and align accounting processes with new system capabilities and evolving business needs
Requirements:
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
5-8 years of experience in construction, engineering, or energy/solar projects preferred.
Strong understanding of project accounting, budgeting, and cost tracking.
Strong analytical, communication, and supplier-management skills.
Possesses foundational knowledge of tax principles, standard tax procedures and compliance requirementsAbility to work independently and meet tight reporting deadlines.
Proficiency in accounting software (SAP, Xero).
