The Opportunity

The Enterprise Data Hub (EDH) is a strategic platform underpinning EirGrid’s Data and AI transformation. It provides secure, scalable, and resilient data services to enable advanced analytics, AI, and business intelligence across the organisation. The Data Platforms Lead will head up the team responsible for the design, delivery, and ongoing operation of the EDH, ensuring it meets the needs of the Data and AI Lab and wider business and industry stakeholders. This team will also be responsible for the development and maintenance of data products that will be consumed by both internal business users and downstream systems.

The Data Platforms Lead will oversee the technical and operational management of the EDH, leading a team of Platform Engineers, Data Engineers, DevOps Engineers and Platform Analysts. This role will ensure the platform is robust, secure, and optimised for the delivery of data products/services. The Platforms Lead will collaborate closely with Solution Architecture, Cloud Operations, Enterprise Architecture, and EirGrid Security Operations teams to deliver a seamless and user-centric data platform experience.

Key Responsibilities* Lead the design, build, and operation of EirGrid’s Enterprise Data Hub, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.

Manage and develop a team of Platform Engineers, Data Engineers, DevOps Engineers and Platform Analysts fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Provide reliable, performance, and secure data platform products/services to the Data and AI Lab and business teams.

Define and implement the strategic roadmap for platform evolution, including integration of new technologies (e.g., MS Fabric, Purview, Azure DevOps etc).

Ensure platform operations adhere to EirGrid data governance, security protocols, and regulatory requirements, working in partnership with Enterprise Security and Security Operations teams.

Oversee EDH platform lifecycle management, including environment provisioning (Sandbox, Development, Test, Staging and Production), change management, and incident response, in close collaboration with EirGrid’s Cloud Operations team.

Oversea the development and lifecycle management of data products that drive value for the business

Work closely with EirGrid Solution Architects, Cloud Operations, Security Architects and EirGrid security operations teams to align platform capabilities with organisational needs and security standards.

Champion automation of platform operations, including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and alerting for data feeds and platform health.

Oversee user access provisioning and management and supporting BAU processes, in partnership with security teams.

Manage relationships with technology vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.

Gather feedback, measure satisfaction, and drive ongoing improvements in platform services and user experience.

Document platform architecture, operating models, and best practices; provide guidance and training to users and team members.

Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in data platform engineering and assess their relevance to EirGrid.

About You* Minimum of 8 years’ experience in platform engineering, cloud operations, or data infrastructure roles in complex environments.

Relevant qualification in IT, computer science, cloud engineering, or related field.

Proven experience in leading technical teams and delivering enterprise-scale data platforms.

Strong understanding of cloud technologies (Azure), data integration patterns, security, and automation tools (CI/CD, DevOps).

Understanding of Data Management Standards such as DAMA

Experience with data governance, compliance, and regulatory frameworks, with a track record of working alongside security and cloud operations teams.

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

Strong problem-solving skills and a user-centric approach to platform design and delivery of platform services.

Demonstrated ability to lead change, drive adoption, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Familiarity with platform lifecycle management, environment provisioning, incident response and cloud consumption models.

Experience with vendor management and service delivery in a regulated environment.
