Join Empirical Solutions – Develop and Integrate Next-Generation Defence Systems
Empirical Solutions is seeking 2–3 experienced Software Engineers based in Canberra (CBR) to join our team supporting a critical Defence network integration and systems upgrade program.
These positions will contribute to the design, development, and optimisation of secure, deployable digital environments that connect multiple mission systems into a unified tactical network. You will work as part of an integrated team with Defence, industry partners, and our engineering specialists to modernise and enhance command and control capabilities at the tactical edge.
About the Role
You will support the development, integration, and sustainment of software and network systems as part of a broader digital modernisation initiative. This includes working across secure environments to understand legacy systems, support decommissioning activities, and contribute to the development of a new unified information environment designed for scalable, deployed operations.
This is an on-site Canberra-based role requiring a current NV1 (or higher) security clearance. The initial engagement runs through to the end of the financial year, with potential for a multi-year extension based on project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Support the design, development, and integration of complex networked software systems
Contribute to the modernisation and consolidation of existing mission networks into a unified environment
Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot applications and automation scripts supporting tactical communications and data exchange
Provide technical advice and documentation to support accreditation and certification processes for secure systems
Work collaboratively with engineers, network specialists, and Defence stakeholders to deliver effective software and infrastructure solutions
Participate in lessons learned and systems review activities to inform continuous improvement and sustainment planning
Assist in establishing DevOps pipelines and network monitoring frameworks across environments
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from professionals who bring:
5+ years’ experience in software engineering, systems integration, or networked application development
Experience working in secure Defence or government ICT environments
Strong understanding of DevOps practices, system monitoring, and CI/CD frameworks
Experience with OpenShift, containerised environments, or cloud-native platforms (highly regarded)
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, document, and support secure ICT systems
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and high-assurance environments
Current NV1 or higher security clearance (mandatory)
