Senior Platform Engineer

Position Summary

The Platform Engineer plays a high-impact role in Ericsson’s mission to revolutionize software engineering practices by enabling the development of scalable, efficient, and developer-friendly platforms. This professional will be pivotal in designing, building, and governing robust Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) that empower Ericsson’s engineering teams to deliver high-quality products, faster and with consistency. Success in this role requires a proven track record of impactful platform engineering solutions and the implementation of transformational best practices within global, large-scale development environments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop Scalable and Transformational Platform Ecosystems

a. Architect and maintain end-to-end developer platforms using GitLab for CI/CD and Backstage for Internal Developer Portals, ensuring scalability, resilience, and efficiency.

b. Drive the integration of cutting-edge tools and frameworks, including AI/ML-powered automation, to redefine productivity for thousands of developers globally.

c. Deliver measurable business value by reducing Time-to-Market and improving development throughput with innovative platform solutions.

2. Champion Golden Path Creation and Standardization

a. Define, implement, and continuously refine “golden paths” – Ericsson-specific best practice workflows – to ensure consistent and repeatable success across build, deployment, testing, and security processes.

b. Ensure accountability and alignment with platform governance policies, enforcing best practices that enable teams to meet stringent quality, compliance, and security standards.

3. Enforce Platform Governance and Enable Enterprise-Wide Collaboration

a. Establish DevSecOps frameworks and lead cross-functional governance initiatives to foster seamless integration, compliance, and system-wide visibility.

b. Build bridges between engineering, DevOps, and operational teams by designing user-centric infrastructural solutions and ensuring usability across diverse business domains.

4. Optimize Operations with Proven Developer Enablement Strategies

a. Leverage GitLab for repository lifecycle management, version control policies, and CI/CD optimizations.

b. Develop and introduce plugins or integrations (e.g., Kubernetes, Jenkins, Jira) within existing systems to achieve uniform workflows and reduce developer toil.

5. Lead Developer Experience Innovation

a. Introduce standardized configurations, intuitive dashboards, and automation pathways that minimize manual interventions and lower cognitive load for developers.

b. Use data-driven methods to continuously refine DX (Developer Experience) patterns, focusing on self-service adoption and smooth onboarding experiences for new teams.

6. Enable Enterprise-Scale Innovation and Platform Adaptability

a. Build modular infrastructure blocks tailored to scale and adapt to shifting project requirements and future platform expansion needs.

b. Monitor and proactively optimize platform performance across global business units, ensuring Ericsson-wide alignment in platform engineering outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

Proven Expertise:

o Minimum of 5-8 years of demonstrated success in platform-focused roles, including designing, building, and evolving IDP ecosystems in large-scale organizational settings.

o Substantial contributions to automation initiatives, developer onboarding, and workflow optimization at enterprise scale, with verifiable achievements.

o Documented experience in establishing governance policies, golden paths, and end-to-end lifecycle processes for scalable development operations.

Technical Mastery:

o Advanced proficiency in GitLab for managing CI/CD pipelines, repository hosting, and workflows at scale.

o In-depth expertise with Backstage, including plugin development, catalog updates, and enhancing software delivery portals.

o Strong capabilities in programming and scripting languages like Python, Go, or other equivalents.

o Experience with cloud infrastructure provisioning using robust tools such as Kubernetes or Terraform.

Leadership and Collaboration:

o Track record of playing a transformational role in projects, mentoring on-platform best practices, and leading initiatives that influence cross-functional priorities.

o Skilled in collaborative problem-solving across diverse teams to ensure global standards are upheld alongside business-specific adaptations.
