Join the FIA and contribute to the design and development of embedded electronics and software in motorsport. As an Embedded Systems Engineer within the FIA Technical Department, you will be a key architect of the safety and regulatory systems that define Formula 1.
As an F1 Embedded Systems Engineer, you will play a central role in building high-quality hardware and software solutions that ensure the integrity and safety of the World Championship. You will work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, pushing technological boundaries while maintaining the highest standards of regulatory oversight. MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
EMBEDDED SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT \& ARCHITECTURE
Design and implement real-time embedded software for FIA systems, including the Accident Data Recorder (ADR), to support critical safety and monitoring functions.
Define on-car communication architectures (CAN, CANFD, Ethernet) in collaboration with global stakeholders and implement core software functionalities.
Develop and implement digital signal processing solutions, including advanced filtering algorithms for high-frequency sensor signals.
Integrate secure encryption, hashing, and authentication algorithms to protect critical data streams and prevent tampering.
Manage the full software lifecycle, including repository maintenance, rigorous code reviews, and optimization for CPU, memory, and power efficiency.
Conduct integration and functional testing of multi-ECU systems in coordination with F1 teams, power unit manufacturers, and electronic suppliers.
TRACKSIDE OPERATIONS \& TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Attend approximately 15 Formula 1 races and tests per year to provide expert on-site technical support.
Configure and verify FIA safety and monitoring systems during GP weekends to ensure operational readiness.
Analyze live car data to monitor regulatory compliance and the correct functioning of safety-critical systems.
Assist with on-track physical inspections of chassis and powertrain systems, including control, fuel, and hydraulic architectures.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE \& AUDITING
Inspect competitor electronic, electrical, and software systems (chassis and powertrain) to ensure absolute compliance with technical and sporting regulations.
Liaise with external suppliers of sensors and actuators to coordinate the technical inspection and formal homologation of components.
Contribute expert input to the development of future technical regulations and the long-term vision for F1 electronic systems.
Represent the Technical Department in specialist working groups to research technological trends and evaluate new suppliers.
PROFILE:
University degree or equivalent expert level in Embedded Electronic Systems or a related engineering field.
At least 5+ years of post-graduate experience in developing software for high-end real-time embedded platforms in Formula 1 or Motorsports
Mastery of writing and validating C code for embedded systems;
Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink is required.
Expertise in processor architectures, RTOS, sensors, and communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet).
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams of technical and non-technical individuals.
High level of discretion and the ability to work in the strictest confidence.
Fluent English (written and spoken) is required.
This position is based at the FIA headquarters in Geneva and requires significant international travel (approx. 15 events/year).
