Job Description

The Chief Engineer is the senior engineer officer responsible for the mechanical propulsion of the ship, and the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical installations in order to ensure that the vessel operates as required to conduct data acquisitions, inspections and underwater interventions.

Safety-, Security-, Health and Environmental policy - Obligated to execute all Safety-, Security-, Health- and Environmental policies on board. Promotes a positive safety culture onboardAlways comply with (inter)national legislation, flag state requirements, accepted industry standards, Company

decrees. Responsible for to maintain the machinery equipment under

class, being able to demonstrate compliance during Class,

Flag and Port State surveys. Should ensure that statutory engine room records are kept up to date and ready for inspection

Head of Department - Responsible for the engine room department.

Equipment / Manpower - Responsible for the safety, administration, maintenance and repairs of all permanently installed equipment on board the

vessel, together with the safe and efficient use of the manpower available. Ensure that the both temporary and permanent back deck equipment can be safely installed and operated on the vessel and are connected properly and safely to the vessel's mains. Ensuring that all members of the engine department, are familiar with the vessel systems and operate the machinery

within Statutory requirements. Responsible for all technical activities on board, engine, machinery spaces, hotel systems and both marine and project

back deck equipment. Responsible for ensuring that the operation and maintenance of Critical Equipment is only performed by competent and

qualified personnel.

Deployment of vessel - Contributes to the objective that the ship is always available to be deployed in a safe and efficient manner.

Managing the ship - To manage the vessels technical administration and (SOPEP) manuals. To plan, prepare and report Planned Maintenance and repairs utilizing Planned Maintenance System. The management of the technical stores, goods and tools and the correct storage or processing of incoming supplies. Manage \& assigning activities to engine room personnel and

subcontractors.

Environmental Officer - Manage the SEEMP measures and report progress to

continually improve the environmental management system on board. A focal point on board for environmental risk assessments, audits, incident investigation and for environmental concerns, questions and requirements related to Fugro’s Environmental management system. Promotes good environmental practices and controls energy efficient operations. Participates in shipboard management meetings and ensuring that environmental matters are addressed. Evaluating new methods to minimize the ship’s environmental

impact (waste minimization, water, energy conservation, and other measures).

Reporting - Reporting to technical superintendent on all, but not limited

to, technical matters and as per the management system.

Security - Keeping a system in place where un-authorized persons can/will not enter the engine room, workshops and other parts of the technical department on the vessel without being escorted by an authorized engineer.

Appraisals - Conduct appraisals of Engine Room Officers and consulting

with the onshore management team regarding personnel matters.

Lead - Lead by example by wearing appropriate PPE and comply with

safety practices and procedures at all times.

Watch - Stands watches as officer of the watch.

Authority - Has the overriding authority and responsibility for the ship's

technical operation at all times. This includes all safety and pollution prevention systems; Authority to Assign activities to engine room personnel and

subcontractors; Authority to determine whether personal or contractors are

competent to work on Critical Equipment.
