About The Role As a Senior Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of secure and highly available Linux-based infrastructures. You will ensure that systems meet business needs and comply with strict regulatory, security, and contractual requirements (incl. information security, data protection, and service level obligations). You will play a key role in maintaining enterprise-grade environments, supporting digital transformation, and ensuring operational excellence in line with industry standards and customer agreements.
Key Responsibilities
Design, configure, and maintain Linux server environments (Red Hat, SUSE, Ubuntu or similar) in physical, virtualized, and cloud infrastructures.
Implement and enforce
security, compliance, and data protection requirements
according to contractual (AGB) and regulatory standards.
Monitor and optimize system performance, capacity, and availability (incl. patching, upgrades, backups).
Troubleshoot complex incidents and provide 3rd-level support within defined SLAs (reaction \& resolution times).
Ensure
documentation
of system designs, processes, and operational procedures is accurate and up to date.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring proper change management and approval processes.
Evaluate and integrate open-source components in compliance with licensing and contractual obligations.
Provide input to audits and compliance checks; support verification of security and data protection measures.
Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge transfer across the team.
Requirements
Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of experience
in Linux system engineering/administration in enterprise environments.
Strong knowledge of:
Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, SUSE, Debian/Ubuntu)
Automation \& configuration management (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or similar)
Virtualization \& containerization (VMware, KVM, Docker, Kubernetes)
Networking (TCP/IP, DNS, Firewalls, Load Balancing)
Storage and backup systems
Proven experience with
security hardening, compliance, and data protection
in regulated environments.
Familiarity with service management frameworks (ITIL), monitoring tools, and logging solutions.
Ability to work in projects with external providers and subcontractors, ensuring contractual compliance.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, combined with a high sense of responsibility.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in

Experience in public administration, regulated industries, or projects under Swiss IT compliance frameworks.
Cloud platform expertise (AWS, Azure, OpenStack).
