Plant Manager

Position Summary:

The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the manufacturing plant, focusing exclusively on producing various chemicals for internal use within the pesticide sector. This role involves ensuring that production processes run efficiently, safely, and within budget while maintaining high standards of quality to meet diverse internal requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive experience in chemical manufacturing, and expertise in managing production processes. They will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the plant adheres to regulatory standards, optimizes production workflows, and delivers high-quality products consistently.

Role Responsibilities:

Production Management:

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the plant, ensuring that production targets, quality standards, and deadlines are consistently met.

  • Develop and implement production schedules to maximize efficiency and meet internal demand.

Staff Management:

  • Lead and mentor plant staff, including department managers, production supervisors, and plant personnel.

  • Implement training and development programs to enhance team performance and ensure adherence to production standards.

Process Optimization:

  • Identify areas for improvement within the plant, implementing strategies to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimize production processes.

  • Utilize Lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Develop and manage the plant’s operational budget, ensuring cost-effective management of resources, labor, and materials.

  • Monitor and control production costs to ensure operations remain within budgetary constraints.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental laws specific to chemical and pesticide manufacturing.

  • Oversee safety training and audits, enforcing strict adherence to safety protocols.

Quality Control:

  • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to ensure that all products meet required quality standards.

  • Implement quality control measures to maintain high standards of product integrity.

Maintenance Oversight:

  • Work with the maintenance team to ensure that all plant equipment is properly maintained and capable of handling production runs efficiently and safely.

  • Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.

Supply Chain and Raw Material Coordination:

  • Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and supply chain teams to ensure the timely availability of raw materials needed for production.

  • Manage relationships with key suppliers of chemicals and other materials to ensure consistent supply and quality.

Reporting and Metrics:

  • Prepare regular reports on plant performance, safety, quality control, and production metrics for senior management.

  • Analyze production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.

Collaboration:

  • Partner with other departments (e.g., R\&D, Marketing) to align production capabilities with company goals.

  • Ensure seamless communication and coordination across all teams to support overall business objectives.

Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Business Management, or a related field.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related discipline.

Experience / Skills / Abilities:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in plant management, preferably in the chemical or pesticide manufacturing sector.

  • Proven track record of managing production processes and leading teams in a manufacturing environment.

Skills \& Abilities:

  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and lead diverse teams to achieve high performance.

  • Industry Expertise: Deep understanding of chemical manufacturing processes within the pesticide sector.

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with manufacturing systems (ERP, MRP) and process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to chemical and pesticide manufacturing.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with senior management and staff at all levels.

  • Problem-Solving: Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges quickly and efficiently.

  • Safety Awareness: Strong commitment to enforcing safety standards and promoting a culture of safety within the plant.

  • Financial Acumen: Experience in budgeting, cost control, and financial management within a manufacturing setting.
