Job Description

Do you enjoy improving and scaling real-world products?

As a

Backend Engineer (Python/Django)

you’ll help evolve several digital platforms — building new features, modernizing existing systems and improving reliability in

AWS

.

You’ll join a small, close-knit engineering team where decisions are made quickly and ownership is shared. Expect short lines, real impact, and the freedom to make technical choices that matter.

Our stack:

Python/Django

,

AWS

,

CI/CD

and pragmatic tooling. You’ll ensure our applications stay fast, stable and easy to maintain as they grow.

About the company

A software organization based in Amsterdam, managing a portfolio of established digital products with a large, active user base. It’s not a greenfield start-up — but a place where

technical improvement and modernization

make a visible difference. The culture is open, informal and collaborative, combining the stability of experience with the agility of a small team.

The setup is

hybrid

, with at least two office days per week (one fixed team day). Within IT,

English

is the working language; Dutch is not required.

In practice, you’ll:

Design, build and maintain backend systems with

Python/Django

Modernize and improve existing applications for better performance and scalability

Work on

CI/CD

, infrastructure, and monitoring in

AWS

Collaborate closely with engineers across other stacks (e.g., PHP, Go)

Take part in architectural discussions and propose technical improvements

Ensure code quality and maintainability across multiple projects

What you bring

3+ years of experience as a

Backend Engineer

working with

Python

(Django or similar framework)

Experience with or strong interest in

AWS

and

DevOps

workflows (CI/CD, IaC, monitoring)

Understanding of

API design

, system architecture and performance optimization

A sense of ownership and curiosity — you like to improve things, not just build them

Comfortable working in an

English-speaking

environment

What you’ll get

Salary up to

€5,500 gross per month

(based on experience, 40h/week)

Hybrid setup

– minimum two days per week in the Amsterdam office

Direct impact: your code improves live products used by real people

A flat, informal team with short communication lines

Freedom to experiment with tools and propose new ideas

A healthy work-life balance and space for professional growth

Why this job is worth it

Because it’s the perfect mix of stability and technical challenge.

You’re not maintaining code for the sake of it — you’re improving products that people actually use.

You’ll have real ownership, a voice in technical decisions, and the satisfaction of seeing your work go live.
