Job Description

Product Manager — HazardCo

Location: Wellington preferred, remote NZ for the right candidate

Type: Full-time, Individual Contributor Reports to: Group Product Manager

About HazardCo

We keep the person at the top of the ladder safe. We build H\&S software for builders and trades across NZ, Australia and the UK, from tradies on the tools to office teams managing safety across dozens of contractors and multiple sites. They all want the same thing: safety done simply, without slowing down the real work.

The Role

You'll own problems end-to-end: understanding what's really going on for customers, shipping solutions, and measuring whether they worked. You'll work within a product engineering team alongside developers and a designer, discovering, building, and iterating together rather than passing work between functions.

This isn't a requirements-gathering or backlog-management role. You'll build conviction through evidence and working software. You'll use AI tooling and modern prototyping to get testable ideas in front of real customers in days, not months.

What You'll Do

Develop deep understanding of how construction businesses actually operate, where safety feels like a burden, where HazardCo falls short, and where the real opportunities are.

Get to working prototypes quickly. Use them as research instruments, design references, and conversation starters. Leverage AI tools to move faster and test ideas that would previously have been too expensive to explore.

Ship in tight cycles. Define success criteria upfront. Track whether your solutions actually solved the problem. Course-correct when they don't.

Keep stakeholders aligned with concise, relevant communication tailored to your audience. Technical detail for engineers, business impact for commercial teams, strategic context for leadership.

What Success Looks Like (6 months)

You've shipped solutions that demonstrably improved customer outcomes

You can articulate the top problems in your domain, why they matter, and what you're doing about them, backed by evidence.

Your squad has clear direction with discovery and delivery happening in parallel, not in sequence.

What You'll Bring

3+ years in product management within a software company. We care more about what you've shipped and learned than years on paper.

Experience owning a problem space end-to-end: discovery through delivery through measurement.

Practical experience using AI tools to augment your work. Prototyping, research synthesis, content creation, or data analysis. You don't need to be an engineer, but you should be a builder.

Critical thinking, cognitive empathy for non-technical users, and the ability to communicate simply and persuasively to different audiences.

High agency: you don't wait for permission. Curiosity: you dig into the "why" before the "how." Deep care: you follow through on what you ship and who you ship it for.

Bonus

Experience in construction, trades, H\&S, or compliance-driven industries. Familiarity with SaaS subscription models or multi-region product management. Experience with AI-assisted development workflows.

Applications close 22 March.

We'll be in touch with shortlisted candidates from the week of 23 March.
