An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Data and Register Integrity directorate for 4 Data Engineers.

Job description

As Data Engineer you will work closely with senior data engineering colleagues and other professions across the organisation to collaboratively deliver robust, resilient data systems, complex data flows and data products data for analytics, business intelligence (BI) and information services.

You will collaborate across functional areas, applying your practical experience in Data Engineering to successfully support meeting delivery targets within agile teams.

You will assist the Senior Data Engineer in opportunity discovery and solution development for technical prototypes and production-ready solutions. Activities may include problem discovery, research of new technologies and techniques, prototyping and implementing pre-Discovery solutions. You will support the on-going development and improvement of Data Engineering solutions in production.

Person specification

To be successful in this role, it is essential you have the following:-

Experience of communicating between the technical and non-technical: you can explain why it's important to communicate technical concepts in non-technical language and explain the types of communication that can be used with internal and external stakeholders, and their impact.

Experience of data analysis and synthesis: you can undertake data profiling and source system analysis and present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data

Experience of the data development process: you can design, build and test data products based on feeds from multiple systems, using a range of different storage technologies, access methods or both, and create repeatable and reusable products.

Experience of data integration design: you can deliver data solutions in accordance with agreed organisational standards that ensure services are resilient, scalable and future-proof.

Experience of data modelling: you can explain the concepts and principles of data modelling, produce, maintain and update relevant data models for an organisation’s specific needs and reverse-engineer data models from a live system.

Experience of programming and build (data engineering): you can design, code, test, correct and document simple programs or scripts under the direction of others.

Experience of demonstrating technical understanding: you can understand the core technical concepts related to the role, and apply them with guidance.

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Experience of using a unified engine for large-scale data analytics (e.g. Spark/PySpark); • Experience in writing, testing, implementing scripts (e.g. Python, Scala); • Experience of cloud data stack (e.g. SageMaker Notebooks, S3, Glue, Athena).

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles , and will assess your Experience and Technical skills.
