ABOUT THE ROLE
The Bioinformatics team at Hummingbird Bioscience guides strategic decisions in clinical development that impact real patients. We’re seeking an intern who will build and improve infrastructure to manage, store, and analyze clinical trial data, and who leans on AI coding tools to move faster without sacrificing quality.
In this role, you’ll enable reliable, timely data access for senior leadership (CEO, CSO, CTO, CMO, and VPs), directly influencing company decision-making and the lives of cancer patients.
What you’ll learn / be exposed to:
Full-stack engineering in a biotech setting (clinical oncology development)
Modern deployment/versioning strategies and observability
Data visualization techniques for scientific and clinical stakeholders
Common analysis patterns used in the biotech industry
Learn commonly used analysis in the biotech industry
Get exposed to clinical oncology drug development
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Build web apps, analytical dashboards, databases, and ETL pipelines supporting drug and clinical development (Flask + React)
Augment development with AI (e.g., LLM code assistants, test generators, refactorers) for scaffolding, code review, documentation, and rapid prototyping while following responsible-use guidelines
Improve and harden existing infrastructure for performance and reliability
Develop features for data summarization, analysis, and visualization that make insights obvious and actionable
Maintain Python ETL pipelines and SQL databases; optimize queries and schemas as data scales
Test \& document: add unit/integration tests, type hints, clear READMEs, and change logs
Deploy safely: use CI/CD, environment configs, and versioning best practices
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Being currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master’s Program in Computer Science, Computational Biology, bioinformatics or related science program
Candidates must be currently based in Singapore and legally authorized to work in Singapore without the need for employment sponsorship.
Proven experience in python (FLASK), REACT for webapp/dashboard development
Experience in SQL querying and other database frameworks
Proven experience in app deployment
Experience in python for data cleaning and data wrangling
AWS experience is a plus
Interest in the clinical development of cancer treatment
Exposure to AI/LLM APIs (prompting, retrieval, tooling) or local model use
