Position Overview
Reporting to our CTO, the Technical Leader guides the technical direction of projects and ensures successful delivery of high-quality software solutions. This role oversees Machine Learning, DevOps, Frontend, and Backend teams, reporting directly to the Director of Engineering and CTO.
The main objectives of the Technical Leader are to drive the vision, design, strategy, and implementation of integrated measurement systems that support business objectives; lead development teams and collaborate with other departments to implement new systems and continuous process improvements; stay updated with new technologies and identify the right frameworks for software under development; promote the best organizational patterns and practices; balance software quality with development speed; ensure platform stability, systems architecture quality, and maintain technological stability of the media measurement panel.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Technical Leader is responsible for leading the organization's technical direction, overseeing multiple engineering teams and ensuring strategic alignment between business objectives and technological solutions. This role requires balancing responsibilities in technical leadership, project management, cross-departmental collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational stability.
The time distribution across main responsibility areas is as follows: 20% in Planning, 20% in reporting and communication, 20% in Process improvement, 20% in Project management, and 20% in proposing new initiatives.
Specific Responsibilities
Technical Leadership and Development
Oversee the development of AI and ML models for video classification, internet traffic processing, and user identification within households
Lead the engineering team in creating and maintaining scalable data processing systems and analytics platforms
Manage the development and maintenance of APIs and dashboard tools for clients
Direct hardware and data product development initiatives
Develop a deep understanding of the company's current technological solutions,
including how they are built, implemented, maintained, and deployed across different environments
Planning and Project Management
Plan future projects, estimating resources and timelines
Report on the status of ongoing projects in PTP meetings and standups
Conduct Scrum ceremonies across the technical team
Coordinate strategies and process optimization for the Metalibrary team
Work with IT teams to provide and maintain solution development roadmaps with clear
objectives, goals, and delivery dates
Perform constant supervision of IT teams to ensure delivery dates are met and address any blockers that prevent successful delivery
Collaboration and Communication
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives
Partner with Product and Panel leaders to define and deliver the company's project roadmap
Report directly to the CTO regularly on progress, current state of technology, and roadmap status
Report to the executive team when required
Act as technical liaison between United States and Mexico teams
Coordinate demos for stakeholders
Continuous Improvement and Strategy
Focus on continuously developing and improving the user experience (UX) for research panelists and client users of data and systems
Develop and implement engineering strategies to improve product performance and efficiency
Identify key roles and positions within the current team
Measure the improvement of each new feature, project, and initiative and present results
Propose new initiatives aligned with company objectives
Establish engineering strategies and processes to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of quality and delivery goals
Take ownership of engineering policies, guidelines, and associated documents
Operations and Stability
Perform financial scenario planning for technology and personnel needs
Maintain panel stability (hardware and software) and ensure data production/delivery to clients
Ensure systems are properly backed up to minimize downtime and participate in building
Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Plans
Ensure cybersecurity policies are implemented at the highest level to protect company data and personally identifiable information of panelists
Qualifications
Required Experience and Education
University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
10+ years of experience in senior technical roles
5+ years of experience as a technical leader or similar role in software development
Strong technical experience in software development, including proficiency in programming languages, frameworks, and technologies
Experience managing teams of developers, DevOps engineers, technical support engineers, and data specialists
Experience with agile project management and software development methodologies (including SCRUM)
Experience with cloud technologies and architectures (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), including multi-cloud infrastructure environments
Experience with successful development, deployment, and production configuration of high-traffic and multi-user systems. Candidate will be asked to demonstrate systems built under their supervision
Experience with hardware manipulation, software configuration and installation, including distributed hardware systems and remote management tools
Knowledge of database administration, systems architecture and design, and network administration
Extensive experience in ad tech, data science, or related fields
Strong background in AI/ML engineering, particularly in video and data classification
Proven track record in managing large-scale data processing and analytics systems
Required Technical Skills
Fast learner: the candidate must be able to quickly learn how a media measurement panel works, how current technologies perform measurement, and how our new technological approach works
Complete understanding of internal IT roles such as: Android Development, iOS
Development, DevOps, Machine Learning, Data Pipelines
Strong leadership and teamwork skills
Previous and/or current software programming skills and deep understanding of the software development lifecycle
Cloud computing management (multi-cloud environments). Certification desired
Big data manipulation (relational and non-relational databases) and advanced management of Business Intelligence tools
Understanding of Machine Learning and Computer Vision, neural networks, model training, and ML applications for mobile platforms
Management of source code repositories on different platforms (GitHub, Bitbucket, etc.)
Application of SCRUM methodology and tool management (JIRA)
Use of monitoring tools to supervise uptime, availability, and health conditions of remote hardware
Understanding of system user interface guidelines
Development and implementation of AI/ML models
