Role overview:

We are supporting a defence client with delivering and maintaining mission-critical IT systems. This is an opportunity to support the modernisation of complex command and control system. You will play a key role in building cyber-resilient, integrated Linux infrastructure and OS that supports both deployed operations and day-to-day functions. These systems are vital to enabling secure communications, real-time situational awareness, and interoperability across defence partners.

The role will involve system integration, issue resolution, automation, and contributing to secure and efficient infrastructure services that support Defence operations.

Key responsibilities:

Develop, build, and implement secure and reliable Linux operating systems.

Integrate ICT infrastructure, applications, and services with Linux-based platforms.

Develop and maintain automation playbooks and roles using Ansible, Kubernetes and Terraform

Apply security hardening practices to enhance the resilience and compliance of Linux servers.

Contribute to and maintain a library of automated system builds to improve consistency and operational efficiency.

Conduct research and evaluate emerging technologies and tools relevant to Linux environments.

Develop and peer-review technical documentation including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), build guides, and system artefacts.

To be successful, you will have extensive experience in:

Extensive experience as a Linux or DevOps Engineer within Defence or secure government environments.

Strong ability in managing Linux servers and virtualised systems within hyper-converged and distributed infrastructure.

Proficiency in automation and CI/CD technologies and tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Ansible, GitLab, YUM and RHEL

Strong documentation experience, including As-Built-As-Configured and Standard Operating Procedures.
