We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented API Gateway Developer - KONG for a 6 months contract.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5–8 years of overall IT experience, with 3+ years of hands-on experience in API Gateway technologies, specifically Kong Gateway.
Strong experience in API-led and microservices-based architectures.
Must Haves:
Strong hands-on experience with Kong Gateway (services, routes, plugins).
Experience developing custom Kong plugins using Lua (pre-function \& post-function logic).
Deep understanding of API lifecycle management (design, publish, monitor, retire).
Strong knowledge of REST, gRPC, GraphQL, and OpenAPI (Swagger) specifications.
Experience with OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, and API key-based authentication.
Solid understanding of API versioning, rate limiting, and throttling strategies.
Experience using decK for declarative configuration and deployment.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps).
Familiarity with Kubernetes, containers, and cloud networking.
Experience with API testing tools such as Postman, SOAPUI, and Insomnia.
Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred:
Exposure to service mesh technologies.
Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Dynatrace and Splunk.
Experience working in remote, globally distributed teams.
Prior experience in onsite-offshore delivery models.
Role \& Responsibilities:
Design, develop, configure, and manage APIs using Kong Gateway.
Develop and maintain custom Kong plugins using Lua.
Implement API security, governance, and lifecycle best practices.
Collaborate with architects, backend/frontend developers, and security teams.
Configure and deploy APIs using decK and CI/CD pipelines.
Ensure system reliability, performance, and observability using monitoring tools.
Support and automate API testing and ensure adequate test coverage.
Maintain and update API documentation using Swagger UI, Redoc, or Postman collections.
Pay: $11,000.00 – $12,000.00 per month
