Job Description

See yourself being part of a large, transformational change? This could be the role for you!

At Iress, we make things happen

We believe technology should help people perform better every day. Since our beginning in 1993, people across financial services have trusted us to take their performance to the next level. More than 10,000 businesses and 500,000 people use our software, from the world’s most iconic financial services brands to advice firms of all sizes, banks, insurers, investment managers, traders and brokers. Iress is one of Australia’s largest technology companies and employs more than 1,100 people across Australia, The United Kingdom, Africa, Canada, New Zealand and Asia.

Build your career at Iress!

As a Senior Engineer with a passion for AI, you will play a pivotal role in establishing the Generative AI ecosystem for the Xplan and Client Portal modernisation programme. You will architect and build foundational AI capabilities—including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and GraphRAG—to interpret complex, interconnected financial data structures.

You will bridge experimental AI and production-grade engineering by designing rigorous evaluation frameworks, defining "Golden Datasets", and implementing automated testing pipelines that ensure safety, accuracy, and compliance within a regulated domain. By embedding strong governance, observability, and guardrails from the outset, you’ll enable secure, scalable, and differentiated AI features that meaningfully enhance our platform.

Some of the amazing things you’ll be involved in:* Produce high-quality, resilient software with strong automation and testing practices. Lead the design of features and non-functional requirements, ensuring security is built in and remediated proactively.

Drive the removal of manual work by automating processes and adopting strategic tooling. Document work effectively, share knowledge openly, and take initiative in resolving complex issues.

Contribute to team planning and requirements analysis, even when requirements are ambiguous or evolving. Mentor less-experienced engineers, participate in peer reviews, and uplift engineering standards across teams.

Build strong relationships across the technology group to gain leverage and scale. Demonstrate ownership of outcomes, effectively manage dependencies, and actively surface and mitigate risks.

What you will bring:

AI \& Data Engineering

Experience designing and building AI-driven applications using RAG or GraphRAG patterns. Strong Python capability with hands-on experience in vector databases, data ingestion, and chunking strategies for complex domain-specific data.

LLMOps \& Model Evaluation

Deep understanding of the LLM lifecycle in production environments. Skilled in implementing evaluation frameworks, establishing “Golden Datasets”, and building automated testing pipelines to validate accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Architecture \& Governance

Experience leading application architecture using clean-code principles. Comfortable making decisions around data storage, model guardrails, and governance controls to minimise hallucinations and prevent data leakage.

DevOps \& Observability

Strong DevOps mindset with cloud infrastructure skills and experience building automated pipelines. Understanding of AI-specific observability requirements, including model performance, drift detection, and cost monitoring.

Cross-functional Leadership \& Mindset

Demonstrated ability to thrive in Agile environments. Growth mindset with a willingness to learn, adapt, and explore new approaches. Ability to work effectively in ambiguous or evolving problem spaces, collaborating across technical and non-technical teams with a focus on innovation and experimentation. Strong business acumen with the ability to connect technical decisions to client value and commercial outcomes.
