We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established landscaping and hardscaping company located in St. Marys, Ontario. They are seeking a highly skilled Excel/Access Developer to create advanced, software-style tools that support estimating, scheduling, measurements, project management, and quoting workflows.
Position Summary
Our client is looking for a detail-oriented Excel / Microsoft Access Developer with strong VBA skills to build customized, user-friendly tools that function like software applications—complete with buttons, forms, macros, automated workflows, and integrated calculations. These tools will help streamline critical functions such as measurements, material costing, labor planning, scheduling, project tracking, and the creation of accurate customer quotes.
This role is ideal for someone who builds advanced spreadsheets and Access databases that feel like interactive applications.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop advanced Excel or Access-based tools with user interfaces, buttons, forms, and automated workflows.
Build VBA macros to handle calculations, data validation, and process automation.
Develop logic to calculate measurements, materials, labor costs, timelines, manpower requirements, and production outputs.
Create automated estimating and quoting tools that generate clean, professional project proposals.
Build scheduling and project management features (timelines, resource allocation, progress tracking).
Organize data structures to support accuracy, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
Ensure all tools are user-friendly, visually clean, and easy for non-technical staff to operate.
Implement backup procedures and version control practices for data and tool protection.
Recommend efficient, cost-effective solutions for long-term usability.
Provide documentation, training, and ongoing support to internal users.
Qualifications
Proven experience building advanced Excel and/or Access tools with VBA.
Strong understanding of macro creation, form design, button-driven workflows, and automated reporting.
Experience designing tools that look and behave like software applications.
Proficiency in complex formulas, logic structures, data modeling, and process automation.
Experience with Access databases, queries, and relational structures is an asset.
Ability to translate operational or construction requirements into functional tools.
Previous experience supporting estimating, scheduling, or project management workflows is a strong asset.
Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and communication abilities.
