THE ROLE
The iCub Tech Facility (https://www.iit.it/research/facilities/icub-tech) at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) is seeking to appoint a mechanical engineer.
The selected candidate will join the interdisciplinary team of the iCub entourage.
The candidate will work on the design of a new generation of humanoid robots, as part of a multidisciplinary team in which mechanical, electronic, and control engineers collaborate in tight synergy to achieve the goal. For this reason, the ideal candidate will be willing to learn the basics of all these related fields, to ensure the appropriate integration of his work with the rest of the team.
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic mechanical engineer who will join our team to develop modern humanoid robotics technologies.
Key responsibilities:
Design and optimize 3D/2D CAD models of mechatronic parts and assemblies and related documentation (PTC CREO preferred).
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (electronics, software) to ensure the successful integration of their designs with the rest of the system.
Interact with external contractors (e.g. workshops, manufacturers, and suppliers).
Supervise the first assembly of designed projects.
Translate research labs requests into feasible designs.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Excellent academic career in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related fields.
Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics and physics.
Knowledge in parametric mechanical modeling (preferably PTC Creo Parametric).
Team player skills with the ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner (English language).
Technical drawing expertise (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
Understanding basic and innovative manufacturing techniques, fabrication methods and material selection.
Hands-on experience with analysis, design and testing of robotic systems, showing a portfolio of previous projects, publications, etc.
Knowledge of Matlab and Simulink.
Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
Possess Analytical Reasoning skills and a growth mindset
