Senior Backend Engineer (d/f/m)

As our new Senior Backend Engineer (f/m/d), you'll be joining a tight-knit team of passionate developers who have already made significant improvements to our platform, but we're just getting started. Your expertise will help us tackle challenging legacy code transformation while introducing modern approaches to our evolving tech ecosystem.

We're looking for someone who can think strategically, contribute technically, become an integral part of our collaborative team culture and work in close coordination with internal stakeholders and business departments to align technical solutions optimally with business requirements.

Maintain a security-first approach, proactively improving system protection

Evaluate trade-offs and edge cases to make sound technical decisions

Take initiative in proposing changes, especially when identifying synergies with ongoing tasks

Lead projects from a technical perspective, ensuring high-quality delivery

Conduct thorough impact and risk assessments

Perform performance analyses and resolve bottlenecks

Close exchange and clear communication with business departments and other non-technical stakeholders to optimally align development priorities

Advocates for personal development, both own growth and supporting peers

Actively identifies and addresses change process issues, suggesting improvements

Backend Development: Java, Spring Framework

Testing: JUnit 4/5

Database: MySQL

Infrastructure \& Deployment: Docker

Frontend: Apache Wicket

Additional Languages \& Scripting: Kotlin, Python, Shell scripting

5+ years of professional development experience

Strong knowledge of Spring Framework and Java

Familiarity with transitioning legacy applications to modern architectures

Solid understanding of software engineering principles and patterns

Experience with automated testing

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal

Most importantly: passion for technology and a collaborative mindset

Mentors peers in technical matters (in particular in code quality and architecture)

Communicate clearly with stakeholders (in particular non-technical ones)

Nice to have

Experience with Kotlin

Familiarity with frontend technologies such as Angular, JavaScript, TypeScript, and CSS
