Position Description: MECHANICAL TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST

Since its origin in 1981, JASCO has developed and implemented acoustic technologies for underwater acoustics, ranging from advanced acoustic recording systems design to complex acoustic modelling algorithms. We perform acoustic consulting, field monitoring and data analysis services. Our work encompasses all stages of environmental reviews and assessments of underwater noise. We work with regulatory, oil and gas, marine construction, energy, fisheries, transport, and defence sectors. JASCO has offices in Victoria, BC, Halifax, NS, the United States, Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

JASCO is currently looking for a Mechanical Technology Specialist in our Dartmouth, NS (Woodside) location.

Position Overview

As a Mechanical Technology Specialist you will be responsible for the drafting, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of subsea mooring components, instrumentation, and pressure housings used in scientific fieldwork.

Responsibilities

Working with engineers and technicians to create drawings and production packages for specialized equipment

Assembling/disassembling mooring products and components used in ocean science

Operating mechanical tools – drilling, cutting, grinding, fastening, etc.

Preparing and maintaining mechanical assembly, maintenance, purchasing, inventory management and shipping documentation

Defining and measuring tolerances and mechanical fits of parts

Testing equipment for suitability for use in harsh marine environments

Providing input for designs of oceanographic equipment

Incoming inspection and quality control of components

Purchasing and inventory management

Adhering to quality and health \& safety policies and procedures

Required Qualifications and Experience

Experience in assembly and disassembly of complex mechanical systems

Experience in Computer-Aided Design (SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM)

Ability to create mechanical drawings and bills of materials

Excellent manual dexterity

Attention to detail, organization, and quality of work produced

Good verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work both in a team environment and on individual projects

Willingness and ability to learn

Ability to work under pressure

Able to receive a Government of Canada security clearance

Education

College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, CAD Technology, Ocean Technology or equivalent work experience

Desirable: Formal training in Health \& Safety

Desirable: Formal training in operation of workshop machine tools
