Role Description
The Senior System Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing complex IT infrastructure and systems that support organizational operations. This role involves leading technical projects, managing system performance, ensuring network security, and mentoring junior engineers. The Senior System Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure technological solutions that align with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Design, configure, and maintain enterprise-level IT systems, including servers, networks, and cloud infrastructure.
Lead system upgrades, migrations, and integration projects, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum performance.
Monitor system performance and proactively address potential bottlenecks or failures.
Implement and maintain robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Ensure systems comply with security policies, access controls, and data protection regulations.
Collaborate with software, network, and security teams to optimize system architecture and operations.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and IT support staff.
Develop and maintain system documentation, network diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and solutions to improve system efficiency.
Troubleshoot complex system and network issues, providing timely and effective resolutions.
Manage vendor relationships and oversee third-party service providers when required.
Support automation initiatives and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices to streamline system management.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
5–8 years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure management, or a similar technical role.
Strong expertise in operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, or Unix).
Proficiency in virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
Solid understanding of networking, firewalls, routing, and load balancing.
Familiarity with automation and configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform, or PowerShell).
Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and system hardening.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CCNA/CCNP, or CompTIA Server+) are highly preferred.
