Role: Senior Backend Engineer (.NET / Cloud / Energy Systems)
Location: Rotterdam (Hybrid, 2 days on site, visa sponsorship possible)
Salary: €90,000 to €130,000 + bonus

This role suits an experienced backend engineer with deep .NET expertise, strong cloud-native experience, and proven work on distributed systems or mission-critical platforms supporting real-time or data-intensive workloads.
What you’ll do
Design and build backend services and APIs in .NET and C#
Develop event-driven and distributed systems supporting real-time data flows
Work with asynchronous messaging (Kafka or similar) supporting planning and optimisation
Contribute to system design, code reviews, and architectural discussions
Collaborate with product, frontend, data, and QA peers in cross-functional teams
Support production operations and investigate performance or reliability issues
Mentor mid-level engineers and raise engineering quality standards
Contribute to CI/CD, observability, testing, and cloud automation practices
What you’ll bring
Strong hands-on experience with .NET and C# in production environments
Experience building microservices and cloud-native systems (Azure preferred)
Experience with containerisation and Kubernetes
Working experience with event-driven architectures and messaging (Kafka, Service Bus, Event Hub)
Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL data stores
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and test automation
Experience in mission-critical or regulated environments is highly valued (energy, trading, telecom, banking, national infrastructure)
Excellent communication skills in English
Hybrid working ability in the Netherlands or willing to relocate (visa supported)
Bonus points for
Python experience in optimisation, analytics, or planning workloads
Exposure to frontend frameworks (Vue.js or similar)
Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform)
Knowledge of SLOs, SLIs and observability tooling
Interest in the energy or sustainability domain
