Job Description

DevOps Engineer

12 months contract - Inside IR35

Must be eligible for BPSS (SC Clearance is a plus)

We are looking for a skilled DevOps Engineer to join a growing engineering team working on modern, cloud platforms. This role is hands on and suited to someone who enjoys building, running, and improving Kubernetes based environments in production, not just talking about them.

You will work closely with developers, platform engineers, and architects to deliver secure, observable, and scalable systems. If Kubernetes, automation, and clean tooling genuinely excite you, you are very much the target audience.

What you will be doing

Building and maintaining AWS based infrastructure with a strong focus on EKS

Designing, maintaining, and improving CI pipelines, with GitLab preferred

Operating Kubernetes clusters using GitOps principles

Deploying and managing workloads using FluxCD, Flux Operator, Helm, and Kustomize

Working with service mesh technologies, ideally Istio

Implementing and supporting observability using tools such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Dynatrace, and Jaeger

Containerising Java Spring Boot and NodeJS applications and deploying them into Kubernetes

Troubleshooting platform and application issues across environments

What we are looking for

At least 3 years of production experience working as a DevOps or Platform Engineer

Strong AWS experience, particularly EKS, S3, RDS, and KMS

Hands on experience with CI pipelines, ideally GitLab but similar tools are acceptable

Strong Kubernetes experience with one or more relevant certifications such as CKAD, CKA, or CKS

Practical experience with FluxCD, Helm, and Kustomize

Experience working with service mesh technologies, with Istio preferred

Good understanding of observability and monitoring in distributed systems

Experience containerising and deploying Java Spring Boot and NodeJS applications

Nice to have

Able to independently analyse complex issues, propose effective solutions, and implement with minimal guidance

Comfortable working as part of a team, contributing to design discussions and technical decisions

Genuine enthusiasm for Kubernetes, containerisation, and modern DevOps tooling

A mindset focused on continuous learning and improvement rather than ticking boxes

Office and travel

You will be expected to travel to London, Manchester, or Newcastle at least once per month for two days and one night. The rest of the time, we trust you to focus on doing good work.

If you are a DevOps Engineer who enjoys working with modern cloud stacks and wants to be part of a team that values quality over buzzwords, we would love to hear from you.
