Job Description

Location: Hawke’s Bay

Ready to make your mark in one of NZ’s most important sectors?

Shape sustainable water services for a thriving community

Enjoy flexible working \& the unmatched Hawke’s Bay lifestyle

Make a tangible impact … and love where you live!

Is it time to escape the city and rediscover balance? From wineries and a rich heritage and culinary scene to bike trails, great schools and close-knit communities - the Hawke’s Bay offers a relaxed lifestyle with room to grow, both personally and professionally.

You might be an Asset Engineer ready to step up into an Asset Manager role, or an experienced roading, utilities or facilities Asset Manager looking to broaden your skillset and move into essential water infrastructure. Whatever your background, if you bring asset management expertise and a drive to shape smarter infrastructure for the future, we’d love to hear from you.

As Asset Manager – Water Services, you’ll

Maintain and improve asset management plans for water, wastewater, and stormwater, and contribute to wider infrastructure strategy.

Identify and scope capital projects and brief the programme delivery team.

Lead the asset renewals planning process and manage its implementation.

Coach and support the Asset Information Officer to ensure asset data is accurate, complete, and well maintained.

Oversee the maintenance and use of hydraulic models to inform planning, development, and investment decisions.

Drive continuous improvement of asset management systems and frameworks.

Build strong relationships with iwi, regulators, service providers, and the community.

We’re looking for a natural collaborator who brings common sense, technical rigor, and a solutions mindset. You’ll have:

A tertiary qualification in engineering, asset management, or a related field.

5+ years’ experience in asset management planning — water sector experience is welcome but not essential.

Strategic capabilities with a data-informed decision-making approach.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

A focus on delivery, improvement, innovation, and teamwork.

Why Central Hawke’s Bay District Council?

We’re a future-focused organisation committed to enabling a thriving, resilient district. This is a pivotal time to join - we’ve significantly advanced our asset management maturity in recent years and are preparing for the future, actively working towards a regional Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) with neighbouring councils. This presents exciting opportunities for growth and influence.

If you value professional development and cross-team collaboration, and are looking for a flexible, family-friendly work environment with strong community spirit, look no further! On offer is a competitive salary and relocation assistance if you’re moving to the region. There is the option in this position to work full-time (40 hours) or part-time (minimum 30 hours per week).

Ready to make your mark?
