Job Description

Marsh Data Services is a department within the Marsh General Management function, headed by the CDO. Its mission is to provide a framework, with associated standards and data platforms, that enables Marsh colleagues and clients to maximize the value of their data assets. Global Management Intelligence is a team within the MDS department that provides assurance on the quality of data in the various transaction master and creates data queries / pipelines and models for consumption.

Marsh Data Services is seeking candidates for the position of Data Engineer based in Dublin, Ireland. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

What can you expect:

The Global Management Intelligence team is seeking a Data Engineer to continue the expansion of the team, to build on its existing achievements and mature its solutions for the future. Reporting into the value stream squad lead you will be a key member of a team at the centre of Marsh’s data journey.

We will rely on you to:

Work closely with data preparation and visualization colleagues to deliver data engineering projects by leveraging your experience and skills to build the best pipelines and models. You will need to be value focused and technically curious, tackling problems without giving up, and producing solutions that others can use. These solutions will conform to best practice standards and data strategy and will contribute to continuous improvement

Engage stakeholders using a consultant approach to gather requirements, resolve problems and understand improvements.

Participate in and identify new and complex end to end projects and initiatives with large data volumes.

Maintain and document code according to best practice.

Complete unit testing and facilitate User Acceptance Testing.

Create standardised processes and procedure documents to help manage data consistently and efficiently.

What you need to have:

Technical Skills

Demonstrable experience (4+ years) working as a Data or Business Intelligence engineer or Data analyst creating data products and reports and analysing, querying, and manipulating data according to defined business rules and procedures.

3rd Level degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems or related technical field.

Outstanding attention to detail coupled with an ability to be calm under pressure.

Experience with ETL and data preparation tools (e.g. Informatica, SSIS), with experience of SQL and knowledge of ETL, database and data warehouse design concepts focusing on reusable code through parameterisation and good design patterns.

Python development experience.

Knowledge of Github and data Lakehouse technologies (preferably Databricks) a bonus.

Knowledge or experience in data modelling for Business Intelligence solutions, preferably for Qliksense or PowerBI.

Understanding of the Agile development framework, and specifically Scrum, with the ability to interpret user stories, create tasks and deliver value to Product Owners.

Interpersonal skills

Comfortable with responsibility to deliver and resilient enough to handle pressure to balance time, quality and scope.

Assertive and fact-based communicator with excellent communication skills and an ability to explain technical issues to a business audience.

Experience in a rapidly evolving and at times ambiguous environment, with an ability to learn new tasks quickly.

Strong team working skills with an open and collaborative approach.

Influencing and negotiation skills in a hybrid \& virtual environment. You will be based in Dublin with the team, but your customers are in Europe, the US and Asia.

What makes you stand out:

Experience with Databricks.

An understanding of using best practices to transform and model data and produce high quality reports.

Recognised technical certifications in applicable tools and methodologies, and a demonstrable application of these.

Understanding of the insurance and / or insurance broking business domain. Exposure to the wider Informatica product suite (e.g. Axon, PowerCentre, IDQ, Big Data Engineer).

Exposure to or qualifications in BI visualisation solutions such as Qliksense, or others such as Power BI and Tableau.
