As a Solution Architect at CoverMyMeds, you'll lead technical architecture and design for a critical new platform serving as the foundation for medication access workflows across the healthcare ecosystem. You'll drive strategic technology decisions and innovative solutions while fostering engineering excellence across our healthcare technology modernization efforts. This position combines deep technical expertise in solution architecture, system design, and integration patterns with healthcare compliance and FHIR-based interoperability requirements.
Role Positioning
You'll report directly to an engineering director and work side-by-side with the product engineering team, serving as the technical architect who shapes how we build healthcare technology at scale. This role positions you as the bridge between platform capabilities and business-critical healthcare product needs, leading architecture decisions for complex healthcare interoperability problems while maintaining SOX, SOC2, and HIPAA compliance.
Our Tech Stack
Node.js, TypeScript, FHIR Server, Apollo GraphQL Router, Confluent Kafka, PostgreSQL, Backstage, Azure Cloud Services, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, Dapr, OpenTelemetry
What You'll Do
CoverMyMeds is building a new foundational platform to solve complex healthcare interoperability problems. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business challenges, design technical solutions, and drive innovative approaches using modern architecture patterns and cloud-native technologies, including:
Solution Architecture \& Design:
Design and architect integration solutions for ingesting data from various healthcare sources, supporting FHIR-based services and medication access workflows
Create and manage architecture design deliverables including system diagrams, data flows, integration patterns, and technical documentation aligned with healthcare interoperability standards
Influence projects to make decisions related to technical strategies including API design, event-driven architecture, data quality, and microservices best practices
Map technical solutions to business requirements and use cases, guiding development teams in implementing healthcare-compliant services
Serve as an advocate for engineering excellence, architectural standards, and best practices across the organization.
Technical Leadership \& Innovation:
Leverage modern architecture patterns and cloud-native technologies to plan, evaluate, and execute strategic engineering initiatives
Design distributed systems using tools like Kafka, GraphQL federation, and microservices patterns to efficiently build scalable healthcare solutions
Troubleshoot, monitor, and performance-tune various software components including RESTful web services, GraphQL APIs, and event-driven systems
Drive adoption of healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, SMART on FHIR, CDS Hooks) and modern development patterns.
Collaboration \& Mentorship:
Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including program managers, product teams, and platform engineers, to gather requirements and define architecture criteria
Mentor engineering team members and demonstrate leadership in driving technical excellence and cloud-native modernization
Communicate technical decisions and educate others through architecture reviews, technical presentations, and documentation
Review enterprise and solution architecture artifacts, deliverables, and processes for quality standards
Provide proactive status updates on effort accomplished, remaining estimates, and issues impacting progress
Minimum Requirement:
10+ years of experience in a technology role with proven experience in a Solution Architecture or Engineering Architecture role, preferably in a large, complex organization.
Technical Skills:
Deep expertise in Solution Architecture, System Design, API Design, and technical task estimations
Experience with distributed computing technologies (Kafka, event-driven architectures) and microservices patterns
Proficiency in modern programming languages (Node.js, TypeScript, Python) and cloud-native development
Strong technical background with knowledge in distributed systems, API design, data modeling, system integration, and software architecture patterns
Extensive professional experience with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
Practical hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm) and CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions)
Experience with API technologies (REST, GraphQL, OAuth2, JWT, OpenID) and authentication/authorization patterns
Understanding of developer platform tools like Backstage and modern observability solutions (OpenTelemetry)
Strong experience with distributed systems and cloud-native architecture patterns
Understanding of healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, SMART on FHIR) and compliance requirements (SOX, SOC2, HIPAA) preferred
Experience with data integration, ETL patterns, and analytics platforms is a plus
Non-Technical Skills:
Proven ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence
Ability to analyze complex healthcare systems with attention to compliance and security requirements
Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills; comfortable managing trade-offs
Ability to lead others without direct authority and highly influential in educating stakeholders on technical decisions and their business impact
Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change
Proactively share information to keep engineering teams, platform teams, and leadership aligned on progress and blockers
Understanding of agile software development methodology (Scrum, Kanban)
Able to navigate ambiguity between strategic architecture decisions and tactical implementation needs
Strong negotiation and decision-making skills
Experience with healthcare technology, drug supply chain, and commercial domain within healthcare/pharma is a plus
Our more senior Solution Architects should also have these traits:
Extensive market knowledge and experience with cutting-edge architecture patterns, cloud-native technologies, and healthcare interoperability
